Think I am going to get something, but I really don't want that thing sticking up 8" above my helmet. What will the chicks think?!? :teeth

What do you use/recommend? Gotta pic of your setup?

I would prefer to mount it to my helmet so it will record (generally) where I turn my head to look (like license plates of fleeing motorists or, obviously, hot chicks).

Thanks!

The Contour cameras have a nice helmet profile.

My setup.

I have the Contour set up just like rodr. I will let u decide which camera's picture quality is better but I feel the Contour is much easier to use with gloves on.

Same set up on my Drift. But one thing I learned from having it on top like that: I never realized how much I turn my head while riding. It almost makes me sea-sick to watch my videos. Most of the movement is just tiny side to side as I check mirrors and traffic around me, but it's enough that I'm going to have to move the camera to the bike.

I like the perspective it gives though; you can see the road way ahead and you're above everything except SUVs & Semis.

I had my Contour set up like that and it was a problem in the wind. I could feel the drag all the time, especially when I'd turn my head.

I ride maybe 2hrs 20min per commute day, and it was too much for my neck to leave the camera up there for say 4 consecutive commutes.

I wear an Arai helmet and at first I didn't choose the side because the sidepods limited mounting choices. And there was raised writing down below the left side pod, so I thought the mount might not adhere well there.

Eventually I mounted it down below the right sidepod. Maybe not as good if you want to switch it on and off while moving, but probably better for commuting, and you leave it on while commuting anyway.

Having it mounted to the side doesn't bother me the way having it on top did.

If I did a Gopro I'd try to rig up a chinbar mount.

Another thing that seems interesting is a VIO POV HD with the camera head mounted to the side. I think you need to roll your own mount though.

Ahhh...the Contour seems intersting. I like the middle of the helmet/low profile design - and you posted a pic of hot chick (come on, she protects our forests!) in the first post from the camera. Extra points! :)

I was worried about the chin bar mount due to restricted air flow.

Here is my set up with the Contour Roam 2.

had a few go pro's which I still use, but love the contour for helmet cam purposes. Don't have a picture of me, but here is a friend:

Speaking of helmet cams -

What's the cheapest (but acceptable) deal out there. I'm looking for my 2nd (and or 3rd) cam. I wanna install on the bike - facing back to record the traffic behind me. And (maybe) a 3rd hooked up on the front mud-guard.

As my main cam, I used Sony AS30.

Thanks...

The camera mounted on the side of the helmet or top of the helmet tends to pull whenever there was a gust of wind or buffeting and it got really annoying for me.

Chin bar setup worked out best for me. This is kind of an elaborate setup, but it lets you remove the whole assembly by removing the widget and sliding out the buckle. Replaced all the non-essential screws with M5x20mm (I have a shit ton of these if anyone wants some) for a lower profile, because once you lock it into a position you like, you won't be adjusting it anymore, and leave the single thumbscrew which gives you access to the GoPro to charge or check the memory card. Right now it's locked into a position that's just about perfect. Still have access to the chin vent too. Best of all, it doesn't pull at your head when it's gusty or buffeting. :thumbup

And yeah... you'll see people doing really stupid shit such as:

Holding up traffic and swerving while reading a book

Holding up traffic and texting

Actually saw this guy again this morning, and he was still texting.

Holding up traffic and talking on the phone while holding a thermos with their other hand.

People stopping at a green light and getting rear ended

You'll see a recurring theme, pretty much anyone with a big gap in front of them is doing something other than driving.

FYI you can find Contour ROAM2 on sale on amazon for 150 bucks. Not as good as old deal of 100 bucks, but still cheaper then GoPro.

+1 for a Contour Roam helmet cam.

Also run a Contour side mount. What I don't see in the others pics ( but could be obscured ) are the use of the tether that comes with it, use it!

Only one time the overheated adhesive gave up and it flopped off, the tether save it from flying down the road. To be fair it was 100 degs and I did not do the correct prep of alcohol wipe down first. I pull the visor off and attach tether to one of the visor hinge screws.

What I am using lately is the big rubber band mount that's available, comes with two size bands and fit fork leg/ swing arm/ wrist and disconnects quickly.

I'm with Inner Nerd on this one, I use a chin mounted GoPro and it works great.

I'm not sure what issues people have with it, mine runs flawlessly and I use it 5 days a week, all year long. I just bought 2 extra batteries for a trip I went on last weekend and now I don't have to recharge as much.

I think any top or side mount is going to cause some drag, unless you ride like a complete grandpa.

:twofinger I am one...

But that raises a point. Being someone who generally rides within 10-15 mph of the speed limit, it's just not an issue. On the track it will be a whole different story both because of wind drag and because of body position.

When I had my GoPro teletubby mounted, I'd feel drag at any speed over 65mph. Granted, the GoPro is less than aerodynamic.

I find no drag whatsoever with the chin mount, perhaps it increases noise levels. But having an Arai, wind noise is a fact of life.

What are you tethering to?

I have a sidemounted contour which I used to tether to the mount.. but then I figured that there was a possibility of the mount coming off as well. Now I use a longer one and run my chin strap through a loop at the end of it.
