I use a drift ghost side mounted. No problems here.

+1 on the Drift cams. I have the 'Drift HD' side mounted and it works great. Haven't noticed any issues with drag and a significant part of my riding is 280 to and from the SC mountains @ 80mph.

Just be careful when mounting though -I mounted mine too far back on the helmet and I can always see a part of my helmet in the corner of every shot. Oops. :facepalm :laughing

I have the Contour set up just like rodr. I will let u decide which camera's picture quality is better but I feel the Contour is much easier to use with gloves on.

+ eleventy billion - I have both, Contour is much, much easier.

Speaking of helmet cams -

What's the cheapest (but acceptable) deal out there. I'm looking for my 2nd (and or 3rd) cam....

You can pick up a Drift HD 720 for $50 (Best Buy) if you watch for sales - quality is pretty decent, especially if used as a second or third camera.

Having owned a GoPro and now a Contour, I'd say It's a pain in the ass to use.
definitely. As a simple user, I just want it to reliably turn on and freakin record.

GoPro has a well documented history of being less than great in that regard. Maybe these software issues have been fixed in the silver+ / black+ generation, but I already switched to Contour.

I was able to get a great condition Contour 2+ on eBay for $130 btw. Prefer it to the Roam2 since it has a removable battery.

I have the go pro on a wrist strap to the front of my helmet on the "Mouth" sees what i see.

Have you had any freezing issues?

what mounts are you guys using to put it on the side of your helmets? rotating flat surface mounts or the profile mounts?

You guys should check Replay XD cameras. http://replayxd.com/

I had a drift HD 720 side mounted on my old helmet and when I wanted to pick out a new one I found the Replay XD 1080 mini. They're not kidding about it being mini! Battery life is a respectable ~2 hours and the video comes out pretty nice.

I do occasionally miss the ability to instantly review and delete specific videos, but since the camera is mostly for insurance purposes anyway, it works for me

That is the preferred setup for me. Track tested up to 150mph, no problems with wind resistance.

Turn on, press record, ride.

What have you found that makes it difficult to use?
It's even easier than that... the GoPro has a setting in the menu system that lets you start recording immediately as it's turned on.

The Contour is a more positive system though. You can feel the slider to check if it's on, whereas the GoPro you have to look in a mirror to make sure it's recording since the beeps are barely noticeable with earplugs in.

No freezing issues, though I did have to get a replacement battery as the original wouldn't charge. Customer service was excellent. And I picked it up for $50 at Best Buy. :thumbup

The Drift HD doesnt make excellent quality video but its definitely capable enough to serve as a commute cam. Simple wrist remote is handy also, only two big buttons, so super easy to use with gloves on.

The cons I have with the Drift HD are minor: the battery only seems to last about 2 hours, and my feeble brain keeps forgetting which remote button is "On" and which is "Off" :afm199

There is a new camera coming out, Innovv C3, that has a waterproof remote camera head and dash cam functionality- loop recording, powered by bike or internal battery, auto power on and off, remote mic for the guys who like to v-log and other features. The manufacturer is sending me a prototype next week to test and review. It looks to be a great combo of features for what I'm looking for for a motorcycle dash or helmet cam and I'll be putting them in the cars too if everything checks out. Haven't heard about pricing but I think that it will be really affordable since their C1 and C2 cameras are $99 or less
