Help a Young Dog on Death Row find a home

I'm interested but I am gone 8 hours a day. Idk how good of a fit that would be?

My dog would eat him. :(

+1 for phocup's question/suggestion
Good questions!

Am having my daughter ask the shelter this morning. I don't do well with bureaucratic rule BS and am hoping that they listen to reason and postpone if there is decent interest. If not, am already trying to formulate rebel plans B c and D. 😀

In for funds to help him with a stay of being put down.
Can Rocket Dog pull from Santa Cruz?

Sometimes if you partner with a rescue and sponsor a dog you want to foster, you can bring a dog into your home as a foster until it is adopted. Then if you have the backing of a rescue, if something goes wrong in your home, they will try to find another foster. Problem is, I'm not sure which rescues can pull from the Santa Cruz shelter. There are restrictions on who can pull from where. But if you really are interested, lets get you paired up with a rescue that can pull from there, we can pool our money to help with food and supplies, and doggie is saved! Thoughts?

Unfortunately for this specific dog, probably no. He probably had a good start and a tight bond but got ripped away from it or abandoned. As a result he has severe separation issues that make him escape as soon as he is left alone. The shelter is going to try crating to see if that works for him before making their final decision next week.
I have advised my daughter to tell them that she/we/I should be notified when that decision is made so that a final save can be made.
My plan would be to do some kind of adoption that would at least get him out of the path he is on in Santa Cruz.
But as the constant hand offs do not help him with his strong need to belong to someone, the less moving the better.

All good questions and good thoughts. There seem to be a lot of rules in place. Some make sense and some don't at all. I don't get all of them but I know that the admin of these shelters must have started as volunteers with huge hearts and got sucked into a no win system with the best of intentions.
My feeling is that they need a better system for dogs like Marsh but it's a work in progress. For Marsh it's time he isn't being allowed. This thread and the ideas that come from it might change that, so thanks so much!:thumbup
I just know that Barf is incredible about cutting to the chase and getting the job done!:cool. :party
Just talked to gfs sister and she said she might know someone.

That would be a gift for sure. Fingers crossed and thanks for putting out all the feelers!

I really wish I could take him he'd be a good fit for my situation but I have sassy old lady bulldog and she only likes people and tries to eat other dogs no matter what their size is if they come in her space

I got lots of feeler out. My uncle would be a perfect fit as his current lab is getting old and he has his own business which he also resides at. Just don't know if he wants a dog right now but I'm working him too

Excellent!

Thanks again, to you and to everyone who is sending out feelers. Hopefully Marsh will strike gold and find the perfect buddy!:)

I think the best way to help is to forward his story and pics to anyone who might be a good fit for Marsh. Keep the ball rolling.

I don't have a home right now. I'm Airbnb'ing. Lived in 8 places in the last 3.5 months. Otherwise he'd be mine. Someone step up please.

I have a soft spot for black labs (had one growing up, named him Wags, cause his tail never stopped... :teeth).

Unfortunately, like a few others I already have 3 dogs now, and don't have the capacity to add another.

I 2nd the Rocket Dog Rescue suggestion. I know they'll pull from the far east bay, cause that's where my miniature schnauzer came from, so Santa Cruz wouldn't be that much further.

I'll post this to my facebook, maybe get some traction there.

I have no doubt you would Robert. You have a heart of Gold. I've seen it a ton of times over the years.

I'll tell kid to address the Rocket dog rescue suggestions, thanks!

And to all the 2+ dog owners, I COMPLETELY get your need to reluctantly pass. :thumbup. I am in the same position: With the one -on -one that Marsh craves and needs it wouldn't be good for Marsh or "sooooo many dogs " owners.

I thought I found Marsh a home when a firefighter called about her grandpa losing his black lab to old age two weeks ago.
Unfortunately the grandpa is 92. While not ideal it's still a possibility.

However, an anonymous Barfer posted to NEXTDOOR in Santa Cruz and already there s a couple with a pug suitable for Marsh's situation.
FINGERS CROSSED!!!!! And a HUGE thank you to whoever did that!:cool

We'll try to find the 82 year old man a dog that will work great for him too.

It begins:laughing

I think it's was my lady's sister I sent her all the details and she mentioned she would do it. Can't confirm she did yet though so if someone else did :thumbup

Thanks Kyle!!!

How quickly elation turns to bummer. :(
The 92 year old grandpa feels that Marsh at 68 pounds is too big for him. I don't disagree.

The Next Door couple sounded amazing....,.til they weren't . :(
"A couple with a pug". perfect!!!!
"They want the free meds, some for pug too". No problem!!
"They want to know if we would be willing to pay for the adoption because they are super tight on money ". If they are ideal owners, of course! I'll cover it myself!!!
"They want to know Marshs value and if he has papers". Ummmm, No, he is a lab mix. He has some pit in him it looks like.

"They said they don't want him if he has any pit in him". Well, faaaack!! :(

He looks like 90/10 but whatever, that got a little sketchy fast.

I've asked a friend and she's asking some friends. I'm not really a dog person but want to see this guy go to a good home.
