Help a Young Dog on Death Row find a home

I'll sweeten the deal and throw in a jar of peanut butter for whoever takes the pooch. Look at that tongue!

This is why I want to buy a ranch and run a dog rescue. Wish I could help. Unfortunately I'm living at my dads at the moment. And I can't take in another dog. Wish I could help :/. Rocket rescue is a good place to check. They just took in a dog that I had been fostering for a while and I think they found him a home. You can check out bayareabullies on Instagram. I know they deal mostly with bully breeds but they probably have the resources to help you find a rescue willing to take this boy in.

Thanks, much! I'll pass on all this good info!

My daughter wants to do the same thing on my ranch!
It's kinda like that now though.:laughing

Putting feelers out on FB, I have a lot of dog-people friends and some who work with rescue shelters.

Glad to see this is the kind of folks BaRFers are. Do you need special permits / insurance to actually run an animal rescue on your residential land ? I looked into this briefly and CA actually limits you on how many animals ( cats + dogs ) you can have on your property. Each locality may have a different local law but IIRC in general in CA that number is 4.

Yes, your land has to be zoned for such things, plus permits, fictitious, business license , variances, conditional uses and meet all codes.

Fortunately, I meet all these things already but my farm is currently for show jumper horses and we have probably 20-22 resident and boarder dogs a day here running free and living the life already for free. It's the best I can do for now.:)

BUT....it looks like with Marsh's clock winding down that I'll be taking him on too.

If you do end up taking him, my donation offer still stand, and I'm sure other BaRfers will contribute as well.

Clarity

Thanks so much for all of the kindness and generosity. It's so the best of Barf!

I'm a big fan of limiting animals per acre. If there's imbalance or mismanagement, its bad for the land, bad for your neighbors, bad for your lifestyle and most importantly, bad for the animals. Plus with weird animal hoarders afoot, I get why they place strict limits as they should.

My daughter latched onto Marsh after watching 2 very similar dogs get adopted, then were returned and euthanized before she could foster them. I think Marsh is her advocate for those dogs she's seen go. It must be hard to watch or know about. I couldn't do it.
But I have new clarity as to why Santa Cruz has such strict (and I previously thought ridiculous) dog leash laws and registration policies. Now I get why.
The unwanted dog situation is out of control and disproportionate to the population. Chihuahuas and Pits make up 90% of the kill shelter list monthly.

My Chi was found roaming the streets of Salinas before being brought to a rescue where we found her.

My current neighbor has 12 feral cats that he feeds along with his 3-4 house cats. Its good because those 12 cats are not starving on the street but .. trust me .. I get why they place limits too. :laughing :thumbup

:mad @ People who get a dog for the novelty then realize it's more work than they can handle and figure it's like anything else you pay money for and can just return / dump on the next person. Forget guns, can we have heavier screening/background checks for people who want to buy dogs? Of any breed?

I saw her post on Facebook - it was well written and touching. I'd love to take Marsh but just can't right now. Arggghhhh. Donation coming your way from me as well if you take him. And maybe one of these weekends I can get some free time scraped together and come visit him.

Wait, while we're at it, how about background checks before a couple can go off birth control. :)

Back to the doggie, go doggie! More pics!

That's worth more than money right there....plus I'm pretty sure that I owe you.:)

mr pepsi for president !

Seconded!

safe to say - there are plenty here who will donate to save this pup (i will as well). the thing is - how do we get this boy out of the clutches of the santa cruz pound (am hard pressed to use the word 'shelter'). can we all support a jailbreaker (someone who can pose as a legitimate adopter) until a more permanent situation is found?
