Oh nice, what are these called and where do you get them?

I have something like this:

made by 3M that someone gave me if you want it. I don't feel like wearing yet another thing after gearing up so I haven't ever used it.

High-viz look takes the coolness out of riding and makes you look like some nerd.

No way am I wearing any of that uglyness :x

Not sure. Construction leggings, haha. I think we got them from a safety store. I have quite a few, you're welcome to have a pair as our project in SF has ended. I'll check the office tomorrow.

You just have to ride the right bike. If you're riding a BMW R1200GS it will look cool. On a Ducati, not so much.

It was common in WW1 (pre-radar) to paint ships in such a way that their silhouette was not obvious to the same reason - stealth.

The theory was that those paint schemes broke up the ships silhouette
and make it more difficult for observers several miles away (for example someone peering thru a periscope) to estimate heading and speed.

P.S. Headlight modulators AND auxiliary lights FTW. If they annoy someone, at least that means they noticed you were there.

I've NEVER heard of an at-fault party saying "I was attracted like a moth to their flickering headlight". On the other hand "I didn't see them" is all too common.

"You look like a fooking popsicle!" - residentially challenged man on 6th St as I walked to lunch from my bike.

I bought this this helmet for dual sport riding, but find myself using it around town for the Hi-vizness.
Very visible way down the trail, I'm told as well. :laughing

This thread reminds me I need to go stick some SOLAS tape on my new helmet.

FWIW, I've got a headlight modulator for sale in the Grab Bag section.:party :teeth

sad hi-viz is worthless.

i drive a big rig with bright colored paint /ads on it.
people still hit us, and say they never saw us coming. ( even when the truck is parked).

the problem is not that they do not see us.
it is that they are not even looking.

Well Yah, That's why a Motorcycle rider Has to do both things.
1. wear Hi-Vis that jumps out from the background color..

2. Learn how to ride a bike... Make extreme moves..
Safely test/assess Traction so you know what you're working with.
Calmly and correctly apply the controls... To tell your bike what to do.

Btw folks, I wanted to clarify that my interest in hi-viz was mostly for night visibility (thus the glo-stick). Since many of you have seen my post about going down on the freeway. I already feel plenty more visible with just my hi-viz helmet and hi-viz jacket; I am not relying on hi-viz for commuting safety. I well understand hi-viz is just an added +. The additional visibility I currently want to add is so people can distinguish me beyond my brake light on the freeway at night.

But yes, :thumbup to hi-viz in general.

Great info. Thanks

Glad the post is useful to you :)
