An impact that would break the frame like that likely did more damage than is apparent.

you really should factor in your time in buying a frame and swapping everything over. It looks like a fun project if you've got lots of time.


from what I've seen this isn't the only gixxer that snapped it's frame, if that's the project you want you can always wait until another one comes along, I hear 50 bucks down and any John Q Public can crash their own gixxer.
 
I wouldn't give the guy a dime for it. Frame is toast, count on the front end needing work, engine cases, rearsets, handlebars, skins, exhaust, if the engine's top end took a hit (look at frame and radiator) you don't know its TRUE condition until you heat it up and put some miles on it....all for what? A track bike that you can get part of what you paid to fix it up if you sell it?

I would figure on 4 grand easy to fix it up (allowing for all the hidden costs) so paying the guy anything already puts it over the top. Tell him to take it to a junk yard and see if he gets $1700 bucks for it. He'll be lucky if the yard doesn't make him pay them to take it off his hands.

There are some nice bikes in the classifieds here that will cost you less and you can start riding now.
 
that bike is good for some parts, to make a rat bike, or if someone wants to build a race motor it might be a good core.

i will add to the chorus: frame is NOT fixable, and resurrecting it will be false economy.

so, did the guy 'drop it in the driveway' drop a driveway on it, or tell you the real story of what happened?

The good news is that the front end may still be straight. Last time that happened to me the forks and triples were dead on, and the front wheel only had a tiny bend in one of the lips.

The value really depends on the condition of the other big pieces (motor, wheels, front end, subframe, radiator, rearsets, controls, etc). Ballpark figure would be $500 to $1500.

you broke 3 frames just from racing, or crashing while racing? sounds like suzuki has some issues if the former

Just like the others had said, don't repair the frame, replace it instead. Otherwise, I'd just sell the parts.

Frame's shot. Probably a lot of other components like the forks and steering stem and triple clamps. If it's free and you have the time to bother with it, you can part it out. Otherwise, I'd walk away from it. Keep in mind it takes a lot of time to disassemble and list and sell stuff. Time you'll never get back again and might use to do other more fun things.
 
+1 for looks like a good parts bike, and is totally not anything one would even consider trying to salvage back to a running vehicle....least not with that frame

I will take it for 1500 if he has the pink slip in hand. If it still has a lien holder its only good for parts. At that point I would pay him 500 for all of the parts.

don't even bother parting it out. What is of value? I can see the ad:
"Front forks from TOTALED bike with major front end damage, don't know if straight or not",
"Front tire from TOTALED bike with major front end damage, don't know if straight or not",
"Engine from TOTALED bike, major damage to frame and external engine components and lots of deep scratches, don't know if it's sound or not"
"Back tire from TOTALED bike, I think it is sound since the front of the bike was ripped off and the tail light is not broken"
"Dented and bent stock exhaust from TOTALED bike",
"Rearsets slightly bent",
"Seat (slight scratches and blood stains)".

Getting the picture yet? The bike is TOTALED.

Reminds me of the insurance ad "HOT car!" after it was burned out. :)

I bet some barfer here will help you get rid of your $1750 in a more productive way...like buying Aluisious some time with a supermodel! :thumbup
 
If you don't want it then I'm sure I can do something with it...always room for one more project bike in the stable.:laughing
 
I used to work at a welding shop and the frame could be welded but it would not be in any way safe, let alone straight. Plus it’s not legal to weld stuff like that without special certs and the guys with certs wouldn't do it, so someone who is willing to do it I wouldn't trust.

No seriously, run like hell. I'd bet money that everything on that bike is pretty much toast. Who knows what happened to the engine when the front end of the bike was ripped off. :laughing
