I hate cops

You don't. You give them a Dr. Seuss book and hope to Jesus that somebody teaches them how to read and cut their own meat b4 turning them loose into the real world!

End rant about children riding adult machines and becoming responsible adults' problems.

My rant is about the people who complain about cops. Why is it that almost every time the story about the 'cool' cop ends in the cop giving a warning. "Yeah, I was doing a wheelie at 100 on the freeway, but the cop was cool. He let me go with a warning." And all the stories about the asshole cops end in a citation. "Yeah, I was doing a wheelie at 100 on the freeway, but that asshole cop wouldn't even give me a warning. Had to write his quota." The stories are usually exactly the same. The cops have the same attitude. The driver commits the same violation. The only difference between the cool cop and the asshole is whether you get a cite in the end.

Sucks that you get labled the asshole just for doing your job. People, take some responsibility for your actions. It is not the cops fault you are getting a ticket.
:laughing
So true, so true.

There are always some suburbia cops that seem to get too bored. I've been lit up, checked out, only to be told "well, your left rear brake light is dim."

I'm sure you get the "Aren't there drunks or felons you can catch?", but seriously. :)

Bart cops are pretty scary.
I had a friend of a friend who was one for a year, he couldn't deal with the BS over there so he left.
Did you know BART had its own SWAT team? :shhh

Damn it Trogdor, you're screwing up this thread with logic and sound reasoning. Lets get back to the hate. Bring it folks, get it off your chest.:laughing

Damn, you are right. Sorry to thread-jack.

Back to the topic at hand. I hate cops. :teeth

For years I worked as a night clerk in a convenience store in port Orchard Washington. Practically every cop in the district stopped in to get coffee, sheriffs, highway patrol, shoot, even the guys working security at the shipyard. So sooner or later I met every one of them.

And when I got pulled over for a 'nonfunctional turn signal' it had to be the ONE COP in the district that didn't drink coffee, cos I'd never seen him before. And because I was a pale, longhaired, scruffy, skinny-ass mid-20's white kid, driving a 'pimp-mobile' pickup truck (black, mag rims, body kit, front dropped, back raised, too many aerials, too many lights)... he figured he'd found someone with drugs on him. You know, straight outta COPS... you pull over someone lookin' all skeezy, you figure he's into something....

He kept me at the side of the highway for, well I dunno, it was a long time, but he went thru everything in the truck, and i mean EVERYTHING. Left it all on the side of the road too. Got madder and madder when he couldn't find anything, poured on the intimidation the whole time "I know you're on something, meth, speed, coke maybe? Tell me now, cos if I find it you're in a world of trouble..." "Uh, no sir, I slammed an espresso when I got gas about twenty miles back, so yes I am a little hyper right now. That's it, nothing else, no drugs on me, none in the truck." Repeat ad nauseum while he tumbled my shit.

Then he gave me a warning to get the turn signal fixed.

OK, so your instincts didn't pan out this time. At the very least, do you think maybe you could have possibly, I dunno, APOLOGIZED for making me late to work???

(Later on I asked a couple of the other highway patrol guys about him, and one said "Oh yah, he's an asshole"... Gee thanks guys, NOW you tell me....)

Might as well start a thread to let folks vent. Seems to be a lot of negativity towards the po-po recently in the donut forum. Lets hear it folks. Lay down on the couch and get this crap off your chest.

Lets see...I'll start.

"Damn, I pay your salary and you don't have anything better to do than to HARASS me? Why don't you go catch some real criminals? The City must be short a lot of money, that's why you're writing me a ticket, you need the money. What is it the end of the month do you need to fill your quota? Sheesh, I only had two beers"

HaHa. Having recently written on this forum that I've felt like I've been harrassed by police in the past, and getting ready to post again in the same thread, I have to laugh a little. :laughing

I will say that while I've received several citations behind the wheel, I've never contested one. Each one that I have received, I knew I deserved it, so I paid my fine & went to traffic school. So I bear no malice toward a LEO who's doing his job. But I've had encounters with officers who didn't cite me because I didn't give them a legitimate reason to, where I came away pissed because I didn't understand the reason for their behavior.

Since it seems I have a free question in this thread, I'll ask one that I've always wondered:

I make a habit of waving at anyone on two wheels, barring bicyclists. Scooters, Harleys, LEOs, I don't care, I wave. I've noticed that LEOs are worse about waving back than the Harely guys. In fact, I honestly cannot remember a LEO on a bike ever waving back to me. What's the deal?

Cops and I have always had a good relationship.

But this and a host of other Drug War-related 4th amendment violations are just wrong.

I've had the same experience until I moved to Palo Alto. All the bike cops down there wave back. Some even smile :wow

The best I've gotten out of a CHP moto cop has been a nod.:x

hey REL.

my point is that most cops are cool. but there are a few bad ones that ruin it for the rest. and there are bad departments like the state of texas. but bay area cops are the best (excluding daly city) i have ever dealt with.

One summer i was on break from college and was in ROTC so I Had a Mil reg haircut. I was taking a walk aound the neighborhood one night, I had gone to the back of a church to check out the view of sf and was walking back to my parents house up hill when i heard the sound of a v8 engine running hard up the hill: I get off the road and as there are no sidewalks I'm standing in some newly palnted junipers about 5 feet off the road when this cop comes speeding up the hill.
the cop comes to a screeching halt and says freeze,
I respond that I was just taking a walk he shouts shutup
I respond would you like to see my ID
the cop jumps out of his car pulls his night stick and comes at me with it raised.
I say in my best military voice "show some damn professionalism, I just asked if you want to see my ID!"
he stops about 2 feet from with the night stick ready to swing, I already had my licnese out and I hand it to him and then he lowers the night stick takes the license tells me to stay there , goes back to the car and runs the license.
the address on the license is half a block up the street.
A few minutes latter he hands me back the licencse and tells me to go home.
no apologie and no explanation.
I'm sure if I flinched or moved in anyway he would have beat me down with his night stick.
the next day i'm talking with my neighbor down the street and he tells me that the cop was called by him cause he thought some one was breaking into his car. the cop told my neighbor that he was sorry about pulling the night stick on me.
what if the cop had followed through with that night stick?
Is there any chance that he would have said he was just jumpy and made a mistake or by the time it was over would I have been charged with a some crime to cover up his eagerness to use his night stick, if i survived.
Since then i treat cops like pit bulls, don't give them the wrong stimuli or they'll go off on you.

I truly believe that there is unhealthy seperation of cops from society that has led to an "us and them" mentality that makes it easy for cops to justify misuse of power. I think if we studied how cops are trained, that there is an unspoken curriculam of always enforcing the cops authority regardless of the situation, and that truly the worst crime you can commit is to question a cops authority.
Yes most cops a decent people that want to thier job to the best of their ability, but there are enough unprofessional or improperly trained police to make highly likely that a citizen can have a negative encounter at some point in their life. These further seperate the police from the rest of society making both sides more nervous about the other.
making things worse are what appears to me to be that most police departments attitude of if the officer had to use force there must have been a reason and tasers have only made police more likely to use force instead of reason.
There are very few Andy Taylors out there these days and quite a few riders.

you may now flame on

I hate cops - it's just their personality. Some are real assholes - even with the other cops they work with.

Yup... I have mixed feelings about cops. Some are just seem to be on a power trip. I got pulled over at 4am in the morning, he said I was doing 90. I said I was doing 80. I was actually following a pickup truck at 75 for the longest time at 880N from 280... just so that I can have a bigger profile instead of a lone bike in the dark (that section is very dark). Then the pickup exited so it was just me on there.

Anyway, 2 of them pulled me over right away. It was just really late, I took a nap at my friend's home for a bit, I just wanted to go home. Started asking harshly how fast I was going, where I came from, etc. I said I came from SJ. He said SJ is a big place... duh!!!!! I know that.

My point is, can't he be more polite? I was being polite, I followed all the instructions. I don't think I look like an asshole.

I just wish cops would treat people better on the road.

I should've fought the ticket. Because I still don't think I did 90mph that night. It was just too cold to go that fast at 4am, even in May/June. Besides, if I were doing 90mph, that means they had to do 100mph plus to catch up to me, because for the longest time there was nobody behind me, I would've noticed the lights.

He wrote me for the full speed 90mph. Granted I was going faster than the speed limit... but I remember that speed limit is a guideline, we can go a bit over if the condition is good and I was the only one on the road. Maximum speed is the one that limit the speed at the number, but I don't see anyone being pulled over for going over 55mph at that short stretch of 237?

Plus what about this? My friend's bike got stolen this morning. His girlfriend spotted the assholes who did it in action, called him who called 911. This happened in Hayward. She followed them all the way to Oakland... all this time, not even a single cop showed up?

Hayward to Oakland is not a short distance. And... no cops in Oakland???? That's just bullshit.

So yes, I haven't been too happy about the experience so far. Too many priorities being put on the wrong people.

Pull people over who drive on cell phones and swerving all over the place. I would see this at least once every other day. Changing lanes without signaling because the other hand is holding the phone... and cutting people off because they just don't look around and pay attention to the others on the road as much.

That's reckless driving.

This guy driving a van almost swipe me on 101S. He was on the far left lane, then suddenly just decided to change to my lane.

I saw him coming, I braked and had to let him in. I honked and flashed my lights. He could've taken me right there. Guess why he was doing that... to avoid a CHP on a bike who only gave him a dirty look. Why not pull him over?

Also reckless driving.

CHP, PD, all you guys out there. You'll meet your quota easy if you pay attention to these morons on the roads. There are just tons of them.

I can keep going, but I won't. :)

Come on... make the road really a better place. We all want it to be.
