I hate my new Reevu MSX1

Another help is to get the "dual sport" type full-face helmets that have a wider opening than most full-face so you don't have to turn your head quite as far to see alongside/behind you with your peripheral vision. Quite a difference.

Have i got a solution for you !! Doesn't interfere with line of sight in any way but does give a full view of all three lanes behind you ...all without even moving your head :) (Notice the car driving by in the eye piece?) The unit attaches to any helmet in seconds and includes a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 5 hours continuous use. Kit also includes a mini rearview camera (waterproof) , and cables.

Let me know if interested

WANT.

kurth83, the real trick is not mirrors that allow you to see 360. Too few vehicles have that; nearly all vehicles have blind spots.

The real trick is maintaining a constant sweep of the place you CAN see, and religiously checking your blind spots before you take an action. (Yes, it means turning your head before lane changes, deal with it) When you get in the habit of constantly sweeping your mirrors and glancing about, you will know where all the cars are, even the ones in your blind spots. I really developed that skill as a motorcyclist. It's really cool when it kicks in, I don't even have to think about it- I immediately know on a sub-conscious level with only a glance at my mirrors whether there is a car in my blind spot, because I just looked at my mirror a moment or three ago and that orange beemer is now missing.

I hope I've described it well for you. Dutiful mirror usage, not techy gadgets, are the answer to blind spots :thumbup

You described what I have in my car pretty well, I just don't have it on the bike yet, it's close, very close actually, and I remember how hard it was to achieve in the car, I tried three different fish-eye things before I found one I liked, or at least could tolerate.

I disagree with your conclusions however, dutiful mirror usage can overcome inadequate mirrors mostly, but not completely. The thing is we have learned to accept this as normal. My take is you can learn to optimize whatever setup you have, but a better setup will ultimately work better when you optimize for it instead.

Imagine telling the ohlins fans around here they should just live with their stock shocks and develop skills to compensate instead and you get the idea of how your argument sounds to me.

Actually, it is not the same. If you develop your skills at tracking and predicting where cars will be and managing your speed and location according to that you will be spending fewer mental cycles than if you are trying watch everything around.

What is behind you is way less important than what is in front of you. Spending too much time thinking about what is back there takes aware from your attention to what is critical.

if you want your bike to look like this

just get a vespa

:twofinger

I should also add that mirrors become a lot less important if you are moving faster than the flow of traffic.

Until you meet a car that's moving a lot faster than traffic. I'm sorry JO, but that's not a game I'd count on winning. There's always someone going faster than you.

What happens if you get into an accident and crash?
That unit looks to be made out of either metal or plastic.
I'll be worry about that thing poking my eye out.

What sort of game are you talking about? :wtf

I'm not suggesting going without mirrors nor do I believe you shouldn't know what if behind you. However, I do believe that obsessing over what is behind you distracts attention from the far more important danger in front of you.

Keeping your pace slightly above that of the flow of traffic reduces the number of vehicles behind you that you need to be concerned about. The car gong a lot faster than you is always going to be a risk no matter how many mirrors you have.

Agreed that you should pay more attention to what's ahead of you. Agreed on slightly elevating your speed. I just wanted to point out that you can't suddenly completely ignore what's behind you because you're doing 80 :)

So, irony is a bitch.

Leaving the house today, I busted off my mirror on the rollup door. I busted the other one a few days ago (waiting for the replacement). After getting soaked, I needed to head up to Berkeley Yamaha to get some tubes for a dirtbike. Traffic had just started backing up on 80N. Since I've been in Arizona for 5 years, adjusting to splitting took a while. However, most of the time I am either on the bridge or 880 through Oakland where there is no commute lane. The speed differential between the commute lane and the rest of traffic was maybe 10MPH which was enough to make me nervous doing anything but hanging back and splitting only when the my lane slowed.

Not having any mirrors and paying extreme attention to the behavior of carrs around me, I completely failed to notice the two bikes stacked up behind me. So, for about a mile, mile and a half, I was being that asshole.

Sorry guys. I'll have mirrors on it shortly.

what are the components you used?did you get them online?

the components came from a variety of places like Ebay, Fry's, Halted electronics and others had to be fabricated either by myself or a professional craftsmen (optics). unfortunately this isnt something that can be ordered out of a catalog and slapped together. If it was someone would be mass producing them (wont be me) and we'd all be using them :)

So, what exactly are you offering then?

That sounds good, but it only matters if you have mirrors that are at least reasonably functional. If you don't believe me, I'd suggest you spend a day driving around in heavy traffic on a stock 848 and tell me how well you did at situational awareness. I've owned bikes with great mirrors and awful mirrors. There is no level of skill and experience that will overcome the problem caused by useless mirrors.

That said, those helmets are a fucking joke and I would never buy one.

good point, sorry. I have enough parts on hand to build another 5 units. PM me if interested

Questions for those who might be interested:

-How are you attaching the camera? Does it need a leed to attach to the battery for power?
-How is the HUD attached to the helmet? You said it requires a rechargeable battery right - what kind of battery?
-What price are you ball-parking for the "kit"?
