Indian Scout FTR1200

The HD factory XG750R race bikes have the exhaust exit on the right side so its not an issue which side the pipes exit for flat track.

as if! consider how inappropriate the XG is for FT use
& how much the storied V&H crew has done to get it this far.....

I'm happy to eat my words on this one. We still don't know for sure what the bike looks like. The Indian press release essentially says it won't be exactly like the FTR1200 show bike (see below). I'm sure Indian will make a great looking bike.


The FTR 1200’s full specification is yet to be announced, but it will embody a flat tracker style, housed in a trellis frame and powered by a new V-twin engine.

Also present at the announcement was Indian Motorcycle Senior Designer Rich Christoph, who was instrumental to the design of the FTR 1200, FTR1200 Custom, and FTR750.

We wanted to make sure that the FTR 1200 wasn’t merely a regurgitation of the FTR1200 Custom, but something uniquely ‘street,’ albeit flat track inspired,” said Christoph. “We’re thrilled about the character this bike possesses, and its ability to take American V-twin motorcycles into new territory.”

regardless, nowadaze we hipster doofuses think anything less than 1200 is weak.....

(I've seen too many v-twins already.
I think there was a time when I thought they
didn't look ugly, but I can't remember.
Even a parallel twin would be an improvement.

A V-twin feels and sounds better to the rider - in MY opinion.

A parallel twin with an offset crankpin to make it feel and sound like a V-twin isn't bad.

So other than a parallel twin, what other engine configuration do you think they should make and why?

I haven't been on BARF lately but I just came on to start a new thread about the good news. It's good to see I won't need too. I think this is great news that an American motorcycling manufacturer will be offering a non cruiser motorcycle. I think a lot of people are going to want this bike.
 
I visited the Indian truck in Laughlin this year.
I asked about FTR 750 to "test", they told me about the FTR1200 being released later, suitable for super hooligan racing.
I would rather have the 750 for weight reasons.


How come no pix of the XR 1000 based on the XR 750 that followed the XL cafe racer from the '80's

I must be guilty here. My reaction was involuntary-like, a gagging one.
I'm sorry.

For years, many, many years, folks have seen Harley only make (non-Italian)
v-twins, and mostly cruisers at that. Here another big American manufacturer
comes along and copies them. Sure, it was a business decision.
I'll just avert my eyes.

(Obviously, there are only so many OTHER engine configurations.)

I won't start on the subject of sound.
