is it me or teh barf

You have the summer blinker fluid in there, need to switch to fall's secret sauce.

Been janky 3 days now.

The good news is there is a coupon. Pick up a bottle and add to your PC. :twofinger

Been like that for a long time for me. Sometimes the site is inaccessible for hours. Often when I post something it can take minutes to load.

Wasn’t there supposed to be a disruption back in early Sept for a day or two to fix the issues.

Bill- I think you might be part of the cause. That doesn't say "Fall Blend" (or winter) anywhere on it. Folks get suckered in and buy because of the coupon- but that's just the retailer making shelve space for the proper seasonal blend.:afm199

BARF Admins might consider chatting with Calguns.net

They're on vBulletin® Version 3.8.11 with some big numbers; Threads: 1,528,712, Posts: 23,051,016, Members: 341,007, Active Members: 25,397. I don't know how much, if any, under the hood fiddling they've done (and wouldn't understand any of it)- but Admins here likely would.

Probably some shenanigans by the host.

Just got this again. :laughing

An error occurred.
Sorry, the page you are looking for is currently unavailable due to derp.
Please try again later.

Faithfully yours, the BARF team.

We have reached out to the overlords for help. I know there was a database search refresh a bit ago and we did have a real blip after that.

Hoping to resolve soon.

A little more info. Sorry I have a damn hard time interpreting what the dude that know this shit are saying.

BARF got in trouble by some SEMRush bots..(they said that is not a bad bot but acting like one). So a robots.txt file to catch things like bingbot and such was put in.

It was basically bringing the forum down by trying to index every thread, every image, etc. (Oh yeah, pinterestbot was in there to, which is weird). I wound up adding an entry for the IP block it was coming from (185.191.171.0/24) to the /usr/ocal/etc/nginx/blockchina.conf file (added at the top), that is forcing it to get 403 errors, but has dropped DB load to the floor.

It will take a couple weeks potentially to take effect. :dunno what the fuck any of this is, but thought I would share so at least you know we are trying.

Basically, some crawler bot(s) out there have fixed their gaze upon The Barfs and are inadvertently DDOSing us.

Simply, TMT -- Too Much Traffic.

The updates that were done 1) outright shut the door on some of them (the IP) block and 2) kindly inform the others to "go away", but it may take some time for the others to comply with the request.

Was just about to say it’s sluggishness feel like there’s some kind of DDOS attack happening. Good to know it’s being nipped in the bud.

Web crawlers should not bog things down this much. I'm wondering how long it's been since the database tables have been optimized and analyzed. This article is old but explains the basics.

The site is arguably borderline unusable to me, and I'm clearly not alone. The message traffic on the site has cratered. I'm tempted to just leave it for a week and come back later.

It's been super slow for a long time in general compared to other sites. Am sure there's smart people looking at it.

I've had some experience working with large vBulletin deployments and it can get a little complicated solving these issues. Like, you can throw the DB on a bigger machine but sometimes the issue is disk I/O, sometimes it's config, etc.

The best thing we can do as users is make sure we continually hit the refresh button as quickly as possible when a page doesn't load immediately. That sends signals to the engineers that they need to load more hamsters into the server.

OP, never mind the rest of the messages here. It's just you. The rest of us take the long page loads and errors in stride. Stop being a pussy!

p.s., can I still toss out an inconsiderate kind of joke on barf without igniting TW's loins?

Bimmerpost forums run pretty well too, but agreed that Calguns has a fairly KISS build that's fast and reliable and more in line with BARF as far as "less fancy shit, minimal if any advertising".
