I'm just surprised it's not already fixed given how many tech nerds use this site.

Whats the dealio? Do you guys need professional help? Or should we just continue to heckle from the sidelines.
 
I'm poking at it a bit, doing some optimization here and there.

Yes, bots shouldn't be able to bring a forum down...IF they are behaving, but some aren't and they are hammering the forum with thousands of requests at a time, and not respecting the robots.txt. So that is a thing. I've blocked a few of their subnets, which helps for now.

Most of the tables are pretty well optimized overhead-wise, but some re-indexing is in order, so I'm doing that in the background, which doesn't help speed much.

Would love to move a couple things out of the DB to the filesystem for performance reasons, but not 100% if this old beast actually supports some of what I want to move.

But hey, I still have running motorcycles, and here is a picture of my 4-wheel mutard.

Thanks to the tech team for wrangling all those unruly zeros and ones.
 
Well, looks like some of the crappy datastore queries that were pretty frequent in the mysql slow log are now resolved. Of course now I'm slowing the site down rebuilding some of the post cache, so it isn't very apparent that a BUNCH of multi-second queries have been stopped.

Yeah, I've been noticing some of the googleapi/analytics stuff has been slowing things down when it gets called too.

It is probably because I finally got them to move Epsom Salts to Best of BARF a few months back. All the Bots want in on that shit.
