Don't fall into the trap of thinking that bad things only happen to the other guy. You never know what you'll encounter out there. Stay sharp, expect the unexpected and take the time to practice panic braking drills in an empty parking lot someplace. When you need to stop right now, it's best to know how to do it without hesitation.

Way surprised that he jumps up...WOW

An even more important skill to learn than panic braking is throttle control and situational awareness. Ever since I improved both of those many years ago, I stopped experiencing hard braking situations. IMO, most panic braking situations experienced by motorcyclists were easily avoidable with a more defensive riding posture. Not all, but most.

I laugh when riders talk like they have no control over their safety and how, if you ride, it's pretty much all left to fate. It's not and we have in our control the ability to massively lower the risk. Certainly not eliminate it, but lower it a lot.

Oof.
How fast did he come out of that corner, 35-40mph?
Did he leave himself enough room to make a full stop even with proper technique?

looks like a bit of target fixation also? another inch or so more left and he could've avoided it.

car was moving and then gave a little jump like driver was going. tough call in my opinion but I guess running out to the dirt and hitting the rock wall was an option....in his mind :laughing

Still surprised there was no broken leg after tearing off the front end of the car!:wtf

Considering its held on by little plastic clips, I'm not

From the skidding sound and lack of fork dive, I'd say he didn't brake at all. At least not on the end that matters. That wasn't a panic stop at all. That was just panic...

Who's fault would this be? The car was just pulling out and had already started their travel into the right lane. The bike seemed to cook it around the corner and couldn't stop in time. I am going 50/50 on this one.

It's a double yellow. The car is making an illegal turn. 100 percent car's fault, legally, 100 percent riders fault for not being able to operate a motorcycle properly.

So no, ABS would not have saved him if he only used the rear brake

Thanks for this vid Alan.

Rider was braking first, then turning while braking, that was the problem.

I had a way more critical situation a few years back.

Basically I applied some brake, then was off and waited to see wait the driver was gonna do. Go or stop. Then I was gonna make my move. He stopped so I went in front of him.

So you think it was a legal turn or you think that the rider did all he could to stop his bike in time?

That's an illegal turn. The car was not pulling out of a driveway or private road, nor were they making a legal U-turn, which are the only exceptions to the double yellow law.

And any idiot could have gotten that bike stopped in time.
