Let's be honest, who truly rides ATGATT?

How many of you 100% ATGATT riders have no issue with "just one" alcoholic drink and then riding?

I've also heard the "I don't drink and drive/ride impaired, I limit it to two beers when on two wheels and four beers when on four wheels."

As I mentioned, the only area where I could improve is to ride more often with my Bohn Underarmor under my Draggin' Jeans, but while I love drinking, I will absolutely never drink and ride...not even one beer.

So what say you 100% ATGATT riders?
The only time I'll ride without gear is when I've been drinking. After all, if you're drunk and you crash you're less likely to get hurt.

I am definitely not a "never drink and ride" person. I enjoy tasting alcohol, be it wine or beer or distilled. I get paid to do it, and I feel I know my limits, I know how to do it safely, and I know when I need to take some time before resuming my drive/ride.

It was the same when I used, but I was even less concerned then I am when I've been drinking. I could toke as much as you could give me, and feel I rode safer then after a couple drinks.

Flamesuit ON!

ATGATT.

Got banged up in the MSF BRC by another student who made a mistake. That taught me that a large part of my "freedom from injury" is beyond my control. (It also taught me that I need to be more aware of my surroundings than I had been in a car.)

Squid? That's an entirely different matter. People have their own opinions based upon whatever they are.

ETA:

LOL Drinking? OK, yeah, I will have a drink or two when I'm away from home on the bike, *but* I also make sure that it's out of my system before riding. That means waiting "drinks + 1" hours and hydrating before moving the bike.

Tons of threads about ATGATT and "Am I a squid"? This makes me wonder if the topics are really intertwined as ego-related questions: "Am I good enough?" "What does it take to be 'acceptable in the group'?"

I certainly have my own opinions and state them when I see people riding around with almost no gear, but those are my own opinions. Their choices are theirs.

Really, these are personal questions and decisions. There is the law about gear but beyond that, everyone *has* to decide their own risks.

I must confess it is this picture you posted in your Beer thread that prompted the question.

I'm not perfect either, I will have two beers and drive but after having experienced in my youth how great my moto skills were after drinking and riding a moto I've decided not to push it. More than once I had a solo crash back then but that was on a 50cc with max 40mph speed, but still, I got lucky in that only the bike got hurt.

Long ride? ATG (do not have neck brace and high viz outer layer though).

Commute is in the city about 5m one way and I do jacket, gloves, helm, boots. Pants are UglyBros riding jeans with slide-in knee pads.

I used to wonder how well those jeans would really protect in a low speed crash until a few weeks ago when I went down at about 20mph in a low-side crash. Jeans were just fine, no road rash, and the knee pads protected my knee (which hit the ground hard) from any bone injuries.

Sadly they did not protect my knee area from getting all twisted up in the slide and almost tearing my MCL, but I don't think any pants would have protected from that.

I did ATGATT but don't know. Shirt rides around town running, boots, jeans (often camo-pants for the non tear material double fabric on the but, knees, hips, thighs), leather jacket (with armor), armored gloves, full face helmet. Also surrounded in a trained, practiced, and executed "spiritual/psychic" protection field. Also experienced in skills practiced and executed in making my bike 100% visible AND increasing my awareness of others to 100% and raise an internal eaala\rt

I often decide to ride in my jeans on local runs. Otherwise well armored. I have crashed in jeans with a patagonia layer under them. Not the best choice but I survived.

This discussion reminds me of conversations with my 7yr old where I'm working on something and he asks for me to help him or play... and I say "Just a second let me finish washing this dish" and he goes "1."
ATGATT is the goal. Its a default mentality. But nobodies getting a 'perfect attendance' award. There are times where it's appropriate to wear slippers and a helmet (so you don't get Johnny Law up your naked ass).
As for those saying its just a personal decision I think the point is that we as riders are acutely aware of the dangers and if there is a general acceptance among the rider community of what is proper riding attire it just might mean more people will be properly geared up and maybe just maybe there will be fewer who's lives are jacked because of an off... So peer pressure away a I say.

To answer the question: I do.

If I'm not ATGATT, I can't enjoy my ride. I spend all my time thinking about titanium kneecaps, and helicopter rides. :p

This. Knowing I've got full gear on relaxes my body & mind for the ride. It does not embolden me, it lets me focus on the task at hand.

Exactly all the time every ride! Period!
