Let's be honest, who truly rides ATGATT?

I do except

my only non-ATGATT outing is a low speed test ride on very quiet block square from my house, then I use only helmet and gloves. I may even throw on a jacket. This is usually after brake work.

the ATGATT police should go to a FNR and tell everyone they need more gear! I admit I dont ride ATGATT

I think the pushing of ATGATT is a great tone to have on BARF. Mainly so the newbies are encouraged to do so. After they have been riding a while, they can make gear choices that suit their needs.

When anyone I know says they are considering taking up riding, I always tell them they need to soberly examine the odds they're taking on.

After being off line for a while, this site with scary stats and gruesome images (worse as you scroll down) makes a good antidote to the rosy marketing of motorcycles and moto culture in our society.

I send newbies to it and review it myself from time to time to remind myself of the level of risk that I have to accept to continue to ride.

I'd think anyone who sees these images would want to ride ATGATT, but if they don't, I don't rag on their choice.

Just snapchatted a bunch of photos to my buddies who don't ride with a lot of gear.
Nice reminder thanks man

I do ATGATT. Whenever I ride I wear the following:

-A* Jaws jacket with CE armor back plate
-A* Track Pants (zipped to jacket)
-A* SMX5 boots
-A* GP Tech gloves
-Arai Signet Q in safety yellow

I realize that I look like a walking A*s add, but A*s seems to fit best. I tried Dianese and about a dozen other brands and A*s consistently fits best, so the result is that I look like a walking advertisement - oh well. At least I'm comfy and well armored.

I'm surprised by the number of people who don't think of motorcycle pants as part of riding with All The Gear (ATG).
Just curious, what type of pants do you include/exclude in the "Motorcycle Pants" category?

this site with scary stats and gruesome images
Agree with RCB, seems anti-motorcycle for the most part, even though they give sound advise for "if your choose to ride". Very sobering pictures, reminds me of the "Red Asphalt" type of movies they used to show in driver's ed.

Rarely. I usually do helmet, gloves and boots when I just run to the store or work (both about a mile from my house). I'll add in an armored jacket and shin/knee guards if riding any further or going out for awhile. I do wear forearm/elbow guards at times if I'm just wearing a t-shirt.

I do have an orange high vis helmet which could help a bit.

I'm one of those weird one's that rides ATGATT 100% no exceptions without fail... all of the time. For me it's like wearing my seatbelt in the car. It just feels disturbing moving out without it clicked on.

I began riding ATGATT though, from the very start, on dirtbikes. head to toe, armor, elbow guards, motoboots, even asterisk knee braces.

Maybe that's the trick... you make someone start riding in the dirt with motocross gear for a few years, then when they go on the street in street full gear it feels literally like you're naked :) Compared to motocross boots, street boots feel like you're wearing socks :)

Yea, I'm also ATGATT. I have had a couple of accidents where it really saved me. As a result, I don't hop on the bike for the quick jaunt down to the store, because it's a hassle to put on the gear. But sliding along the roadside, even at city street speeds sucks big time if you are in jeans.

The only time I can think of where I don't follow this, is riding to tech spec in the pit at the track. so maybe that puts me at 99%+ and when the likelihood of clueless cagers is way low.

I was thinking just of pants intended for motorcycle use, though a lot of that seems inadequate. For example leathers with no armor. Polyester textiles. Pants that are just double layer heavy duty cotton (like arborwear). Nearly all kevlar-reinforced denim jeans. Yeah I have some of that last one, but rarely wear them

I don't read BARF without some form of protection... :x

Wanna bet somebody lost a loved one riding and now everything motorbike is a no-no?

You could be right.

The way I took the site is that it's not anti everything moto, but that the stats are the stats and they are grim (37x more likely to die per mile riding than in a car) and I have to heed them and decide, every time I get on the bike, if I'm ready to accept the odds. (For 45 years, I have been.)

The pictures are reality. Not pro or anti, just real.

IMHO, ALL motorists are usually in a trance of denial of what it means to hurtle down the highway in a missile. The inherent kinetic energy is imperceptible until it meets some other physical object. But it's always there.

And apparently a lot of bikers are clueless about the reality vs. the image. For me the site tempers the macho crap that's selling 180 hp bikes to teens.

On a personal note (and on topic), many years ago, I stopped riding in jeans because of the site. Just like I started wearing a helmet before they were mandatory when I was in the ER and saw a 3 year old boy die from falling off the back of a moped driven by his grandfather on the sidewalk. The ER doc was a friend of mine and explained that it takes a 3-foot fall onto concrete for the brain to be injured. After that, I put on my helmet to change my plugs!

On my R6 (first street bike) I wasn't ATGATT. It's been a few years and since I've purchased my Ducati, it has been ATGATT since day 1.

I ride in jeans or over-pants, and always wear my armor underneath.

I always wear my helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots.
