That's Terdblance, director of fucking up Ducati design.

I wouldn't be quite so harsh but I was never a fan of the batman SS or even the 999.
Tamburini is my man. ;)

Ok - everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I've worked hard to keep this thread relatively clean, so let's all watch our language. Whether or not you like someone or something, if you can't communicate without resorting to expletives, I can't respect you.

So, while I am busy writing down my impressions of the Ducati Corse raceshop, facilities, and style of doing things, as well as some very interesting information about the Factory itself, useful for future factory visits, etc, take a moment to figure out what this is. And when is it from?

I haven't had much free time in the last week, but in the two days I've been back in BCN, I confess that I've slept a bit, excercised too much, and generally have been mulling over my thoughts about Ducati. It was a very special journey for me, because I was allowed access into the deepest corners of the racing division, and I saw and learned things I did not expect. Whether or not I am a fan of the brand, my respect level for Ducati Corse is very, very high. Whether or not you are a fan doesn't really matter, but maybe when I'm done writing what I think at this point, you will have a little more respect also.

I should be back within 24 with some write-ups. Later this week I will probably put something together about the town of Bologna, my dinner with the Marlboro Ducati squad (super cool), and a little bit about the Ducati Museum.

P.S. I'm surprised no one mentioned how similar Pierre Terblanche and Eric Buell look like. Something about middle-aged, white motorcycle designers/engineers? I'm sure someone can come up with a photochop of the two. . . .

Man, Liam, you are right . And come to think of it, I've never seen them in the same place at the same time...

..hmm..

rider was yasuo tofukuji

ciao,

Maybe that last post was too wordy. Here's another photo to keep you guys guessing. Can you guys name the bike and the rider? Oh, and in case you missed it, I caught up with Garry McCoy somewhere in here.

saw these model kits in the honda collection gift shop, and thought of your ultra interest in all things monkey bike related ...

I'm right there with you John! Good work on sleuthing out the mystery bike - one look at the cylinder should be enough to know it's not a 500. Too bad you had to go all the way to the Honda Collection Hall to find out. Or not!

Here's are my initial impressions on the Ducati Factory. Let me know what you think and if you have any questions you think I can answer, fire away. I'm not really happy with my write-up, I think there's a lot more here I'm not touching on.

Was that his maiden name?:p

ciao liam -

as you know, visiting motegi was not so much bad ;-)

great write up on the ducati factory ... your insight is spot on. btw, how the heck did you manage to take photos inside the factory working floor? that's like a major no-no, due to italian privacy laws and workers rights.

i added a comment to your blog page on the factory visit ... question is on the bombed out building to the right of the entrance gate, when you walk in.

ciao,
johnc

Liam-

Awesome, awesome, write up on the Ducati factory. Once again, thank you for painting such a great image in my head of all the activity and goings-on @ the factory, i can just about smell the gear oil. :thumbup

Doh! You're right, it's Erik Buell, not Eric. Anyway, if you haven't seen it, he was in Milan to debut the Buell Lighting Super TT, which looks to me to be a standard Lightning Long with tacked on numberplates, a high front fender, and the usual torquey engine. If the suspension is anything like the Ulysses, it is sure to be a lot of fun to ride. It looks like this:

Meanwhile, also at the Milan show, Ducati unveiled their 1098 Tri-Colore edition, which looks something like this.

No problem, Liam.'
BTW: The "FACTORY" write-up was excellent, as usual. Is it O.K. to post it on Speedzilla?

Thanks Trick, of course you can cross-post/link it wherever you want. I've noticed that it's made it's way to a variety of boards already, some of them for cars! If you don't know what we're talking about, read below.

I wrote a piece on my journey to the Factory last week, and I have recieved a lot of positive feedback on it already. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that posted a comment on my site about it, and it was good to know that you all enjoyed it. It took me longer than usual to write about it, because I really wanted to take my time and get it right. I'm not sure that I managed to encompass everything, so I'm welcoming questions and additional feedback. Naturally, some subjects are classified, but if you're planning a trip there, this might give you some more information to think about. In addition, I will post something about the city of Bologna, and also a specific Ducati Museum piece in the next few days. If you missed the link to the Ducati Corse article, you can click below.

Ducati Corse and Factory Review, by MotoLiam

I also want to mention that the Ducati Unitard piece I wrote above was purely for fun. I'd like to think it will become a reality one day (ala the bikes from Bionic Six), but for now it's just a pipe-dream of mine. Speaking of pipe-dreams, my meeting with Terblanche was very interesting and informative. We discussed the pro's and con's of building motorcycles that share many components with other models, like Harley-Davidson's, and lifewise, also the current Sport Classic series by Ducati. With regards to the Hyper-Motard, we talked about some options that I hope to flush out further with him, and while we will not see a "MotoLiam Edition" Hyper-Motard, there should be something in the works that I will lay claim to should it come to pass.

Oh, I also want to mention that the Ducati Factory article was not something I was consciously planning while I was there, but after a few days I knew I wanted to share as much as I could with everyone. I'm disappointed by the photos that I did manage to take, because I was trying not to take any at all. Some days I wouldn't even bring my camera with me. But anyway, that's what I got, so that's what you've got, haha. I'm going to start working on my Ducati Museum write-up, should be done within a day or two.

I think Pierre has redeemed himself with this one. I really like the lines, can't wait to see it in person.

I can already hear the conversation now... 'um honey, lets just take a drive down to the Duc dealership to check it out. Really, we're just looking...' :laughing

Word is that Terblanche had no input into the design of the new Superbike.

Maybe Liam can comfirm or deny?

From what I understand, Terblanche is working on other projects and was not involved with the bodywork for the 1098.
