List of plateable dirt bikes in Ca?

Bumping an old thread to get clarification on this.

So I see conflicting information about what plated dirt bikes I can transfer title on. Specifically interested in one older than 2003, but newer than early 90s. I don't know VIN yet.

Should I assume I will be able to transfer street title/registration? At AAA or will I have to visit DMV? Or is this the sort of thing where I should visit DMV with seller and hope for the best?
Already plated in California with no 3/C and you should be golden.
my WR450 would be red sticker and yet it transferred fine a few years ago (in state)

+1'ing this - usually grandfathered registrations carry on through without issue. They are starting to crack down more though, EPA apparently got pissy about it. The more rural the DMV, the less likely they are to give a shit.

EPA? I'd have expected CARB.

EPA has apparently filed some kind of lawsuit because too many vehicles were getting through that didn’t pass emissions. I don’t know if they’ll go after hikes as well, but I had some difficulty getting an old car registered as a result.

I plated my 2012 WR450F a few years ago. I kept hearing "you can't do it, you can't do it!", but found a guy on the Thumpertalk forums who guaranteed he could do it--for a fee of course! I figured if he could guarantee it then it must be possible-- somehow. The very first thing I did was go to the DMV and ask them if it was possible. They told me very affirmatively, yes it is. I didn't fully believe them, but figured I'd give it a try. I took their form and came back with the bike so they could verify the VIN. Then they gave me a couple more forms to complete. I bought the enduro kit on rockymountainatv.com and started my adventure. The only thing I had to do to the kit is wire in a blue LED as a high beam indicator (wouldn't pass the light inspection without this). I had to get all the lights inspected to make sure the bike had everything to make it street legal. I found a guy locally who is licensed to do motorcycle specific light inspections and he charged around $100. He gave me a little trouble because the lights didn't have the DOT logo, but I pointed out that my truck didn't have a DOT logo on any of it's lights so he gave me the certificate. I went back to the DMV, gave them the forms and light certificate and they gave me the temporary registration. I got the plate a short while later. Haven't had any issues since and the insurance is super cheap because they still treat it like a dirt bike (I did tell them it is street legal now). One thing I got away with was not installing street legal tires. Nobody ever checked the tires even though the DMV paperwork said it would need them(it has street tires now, I just couldn't afford them at the time). So...even though the DMV sucks, I would head down there and talk to them if you want to plate your green sticker dirt bike.
