M 900 monster

My buddy left me with a 900sei for a couple months. I LOVED riding it.

So fun, and very reliable. He sold it to another buddy who rode it a lot and sold it to buy another Duc.

Never understood the love of Ducati sound/feel/persona until riding that bike. The two valve engine just has so much character. It had dual Remus ti cans and it sounded glorius!

Damn, didn't know BARF had so many up to speed on the monster. Thanks!

Problem is now I want one :laughing

Will be checking it out Wed after work.

that '95 is a good bike, and will last a long time. Offer them $2500 and start the haggling there. If they're adjustable forks, I can understand the higher price, but if not, then start low.
Mine has 95k and DH's has...well, less. :teeth :later
Not hard to work on at all, and plenty of local places in the bay to either learn to work on it, or have someone work on it.

Oh, and I tour on it, SF to Austin, to Mazatlan and back. Comfortable, quick, nimble, just enough. :dunno

...and impulse...yeah, saw it on craigslist, drooled over it for 3 days, then flat out bought it, flew to San Diego, and rode it back. :laughing

^It was this guy that talked me into buying the Duc and I do not regret it one tiny bit. :ride

There used to be a very active Monster group in the Bay Area. We had rides at least monthly and other get-togethers as well. The remains of that group occasionally posts in the Ducati MOB (Monsters Of the Bay Area) forum here: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=19.0 but it's pretty dead now. I guess the Monster forum was more popular when they weren't so common.

:cool

Had to read Machete's post twice to make sure I didn't misread it the first time. Impresive:thumbup

Before starting this thread the kid and I wondered if the monster was too much bike for her. IMO some power, greater than that offered by the smaller bikes, is a safety issue to some extent. Then we read Jason's post last night and concluded that if Jason, red hair and all, can handle it how tuff can it be? :ride :party

Speaking of different looks... Is that a stock gauge cluster in your avatar? What year is it from? It looks WAY better than the one on my '96

It's not stock, it's the Road Racing cluster. :)

Let us know how it goes after Wed OB!

I went from a Ninja 250 to a Bandit 600 to a Monster 900. The power gradient across that spectrum is not too extreme at all. With its low center of gravity and upright seating position, it's a very manageable bike. I'd say it's a great beginner bike, as long as said beginner is thoughtful and mature in their approach to learning.

Selling my M900 was one of the bigger regrets of my motorcycling career.

Thanks for the confirmation Billy. It was a concern.

Seems to be a common sentiment of ex monster riders.:thumbup

I was a relatively inexperienced rider (less than two years, about 10k under my belt) and I haven't binned it on the beast yet. Tell her I advise to take it a little easy at first. Us ladies are different critters than you guys, perhaps a little less nutty and testosterone driven. :)

Go for the 900.

The dry clutch a-jinglin' sets the loins to tinglin'.

Edit: Just remembered this is your daughter we're talking about. Please disregard my clever slogan above.

Warned her about the clutch noise and having to get used to ppl telling her that the bike is broken. She thinks the clutch noise its :cool......... very duc like.

More clever than my riding buds Billy. 3 weeks ago we were all sitting around the pool at topaz lake. One pulls out his i phone and passes around a pic of my daughter taken at a club in SF. Don't know why the hell she posted the pic on facebook. Started turning multi colors....... pissed off. Got on the dyna and road east for a couple of hours to cool off:mad :laughing

Her lack of .... has been a factor in deciding that she may be mature enough for the monster:thumbup

Shall do Cootz.

The 97 and older Monsters look better. Especially the one they're considering.

To me, all 93-2008 models are damn similar. I'm aware there's differences but they're not that much to my eye.

Selling my M900 was one of the bigger regrets of my motorcycling career.

Had the same cluster too...

Thanks Larry.

The second one looks particularly interesting.
It would be a bit weird if father / daughter rode the same bike right?
Confirms what Jason was saying about the later fuel injected bikes being just a bit more. Jason, I'm not saying you need confirmation :thumbup

I was in communication to buy that second one. I chose to walk because the guy won't budge one cent and that's just not gonna work for me. It's beautiful but it's not $4000 beautiful...which BTW is what he's asking for it now. I'm watching it on DMF just in case he finally decides to budge on the price.
