March 31, 2018 Free Annual Dyno Day @ Nor-Cal Cycles LLC

I did this in 2016 with my 2007 Suzuki V-Strom DL650A and still pulling 61HP peak after 80K miles whereas rated is 62HP. Also, I think I paid $10 to include the AFR which proved what I already knew, running rich, despite being stock. I never was able to figure out why.

If you are thinking of testing an older bike beware the test is kind of harsh on the bike. I was cringing when the tech treated my bike harshly and thrashing it through the gears up and down... causing chain slap and other anomalies. I didn't like it and I don't think it was necessary but maybe someone can explain why or if a dyno run needs to be rough on the bike.

On almost all dyno runs, most vehicles are ran up to OR pretty close to redline to provide max power readings. We do not thrash the gears up and down as there is absolutely no purpose for that. Each vehicle gets 3 runs, gears are shifted up to & tested in 5th gear and downshifted when runs are completed. Chain slap is due to a loose chain.:):)

I wish I had a video because that was not the case for my bike. Suzuki chain was brand new and recently adjusted to Suzuki specs by me. Tech was slamming it into gear going up or down and just dumping the clutch along the way (moreso down than up). Bike would shimmy and groan every time he did it. It wasn't the run to redline that I am complaining about, I do it all the time myself and expected that stress on a dyno run, it was getting there or back to zero that was harsh. Runs of the other bikes were not so rough so I don't know what was going on, other than your tech was in a hurry because there was a line or hadn't had his slice of pizza yet.

Sounds like you baby your bike too much. :laughing I've seen these guys dyno bikes. Some maybe slightly faster or slower but nothing "harsh" or "rough". These guys are pros and they know what they are doing. There are a lot closer bike shops to me but I trust NorCal Cycles with my bike. :thumbup

These guys are providing a free (ZERO COST) service. If you don't like it, don't take part. It seems pretty crappy that you'd come into their thread, unprompted, and shit on them for something they're doing out of generosity to the community.

My commenting on it is not crappy in any way and notice I never said stay away or these guys suck... I said;

If you are thinking of testing an older bike beware the test is kind of harsh on the bike.

...which was in response to someone up the thread who was thinking of getting his old bike tested. Just because the test is free doesn't mean I can't comment and share my experience, its still part of the deal. I have no idea why my bike was treated harshly and I watched a number of runs before my bike and the tests seemed fine but when the tech ran my bike he thrashed it. If the bikes before mine were thrashed I would have pulled my bike out of line and went home.

Everyone is free to dismiss my comments as a those of a newb who doesn't know how to adjust a chain and babies his bike if it makes you feel better.

Dyno day has started:party:party

Great fun guys!
Thanks for the free run, if just to confirm that my bike needs a new clutch!
I was hoping to get a pull without it slipping, but I suppose that’s a perfect reason to bring it back for you guys to breathe on it after I install a new one.
My kid especially liked seeing the various, and sometimes exotic bikes.

It was great! Got there early, @10:15, 5 bikes in front of me was out by 10:50. NorCal crew was awesome hustling the bikes in & out in a timely manner. Always cool hangin’ and talkin with the other moto riders. Great variety of bikes. Turbo ‘Busa did 200+ hp, then he coudn’t get the bike to start again til people helped him bump it, lol. I learned I’m actually squeezing a few extra hp out of my standard bike, factory rated 98 at the crank now 98 to the wheel! Just what I was looking for. Go check it out.

Thanks for the dyno party looks like I should have gotten there sooner, I only saw a handful of bikes run. Mine was probably the quietest of them all =P

Every year this is the best time to socialize, meet new barfers and riders from all over the bay:cool:cool

Glad you finally made it home!:ride:ride Where did you end up charging the e-bike at?

I ran low on juice around Santa Clara like I had predicted. Tried to use Applied Material's chargers but they restrict access so I went across the street to Palo Alto Networks charged for bout 45 minutes getting caught up on the social media stuff then rode home :)

Nice pictures:thumbup:thumbup. The Harley will look much better after we get the new polished Garrett turbo on with all the piping nicely ceramic coated (no more ugly exhaust wraps) and a major detail. Hopefully we will have time to get it all done up and run it on the next dyno day:teeth:teeth

Thanks NorCal for hosting a free dyno. Great crew there!!! Too bad my ride couldn't get dyno'd that day. My ride couldn't fit through the door. Next time instead of bringing my Sienna, I'll bring my R6... :rofl
