Marin County pair injured in high-speed motorcycle collision

They had an accident. Big deal. Cars do it all the time, rear ending each other. What's the difference if some motorcycles do it? Not anything new. Not any big "defining" moment, just another accident. People burning down the rider that stopped. Or how fast someone was going. So the "saving grace" was that the rider that stopped was the one with the severe injuries. Real nice attitude guy. I'll assume you never speed, you never do anything wrong.

Put yourselves in their situation. He's fucked, no matter what. Who's fault? Doesn't matter. Actually, they're both fucked.

Good luck, riders.

hope these dudes heal quick. robert is one of my buddys neighbors, i willl see if i can get updates on condition.

The only saving grace in all this is that the guy with the more severe injury was the guy who apparently caused the accident. Would have sucked worse if the guy in front who got asspacked was the one with the nearly severed leg.

Every time I hear of a crash like this, I have a Bubba Shoebert flashback. I will never, ever get that image out of my mind until I'm in the ground.

I was there that year; an horrific moment.

It's a cautionary tale, and a rather unique one at that.

Lots of squids on those roads in packs doing near those speeds, often in close quarters with little following distance.

Perhaps a handful will read the crash scenario and ride with more of a thought towards "what happens if my buddy up ahead suddenly slams on the brakes because of the sudden appearance of a potential obstacle/danger"?

There's usually something of value to be taken from a crash scenario that newer riders can incorporate into their riding technique from a self preservation standpoint assuming they take the time to analyze the situation and extrapolate it into a real world situation in which they may find themselves one day.

:wtf:wtf:wtf

I hope both young riders survive and learn from this crash...rearending another rider at over 60 mph by the sounds of it.

I'm sure both riders' family and friends are in a tremendous amount of grief and fear. :nchantr

"The CHP said that at about 7:45 p.m., 20-year-old Robert Kline was riding a 2010 Yamaha R6 southbound on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road south of Novato Boulevard, at about 100 mph. Ahead of Kline, 20-year-old Erik Dyvad of Novato was riding a 2004 Honda 600RR southbound at between 60 and 100 mph.

Dyvad applied his brakes abruptly and Kline was not able to slow in time to avoid a collision, CHP Officer Eric Hohmeister said."

Kids, or dumbasses, 600,s...what could go wrong? Oh wait, it did go wrong.

hello barfers, my name is erik dyvad. thank you to all the supporters and everyone who is wishing us the best of luck on recovery and keeping us in their prayers especially for robert.

secondly fck everyone else who are calling us dumbasses or we got what we deserved, because i can gaurente that pretty much ALL of you have broken the speed limit with a friend n gone 100 mph.

also the cop eric was not very nice and really was trying hard to see if we were on drugs or drinking, while i wanted to see if my friend was ok. and his story is not totally correct.

im not positive if robert and i collided, one peice of info that would suggest we didnt was that my bike made one set of tracks al the way to the pole. i would think if we collided on the street my bike would not have been able to stay up on its own and hit the pole like it did. i would also thnik that i would have been ejected over the street and not in the dirt at those speeds.

im going to get picures of the scene and perhaps post them if ppl are interested

roberts bike has about 500$-1000 worth of damage, front fering ripped off, scrached all around, pipe ripped off and rear tail smashed. looks like it could still run

my bike on the other hand is totaled, forks are cracked, front ferring is ripped off, frame is cracked in half, engine casing is cracked, rear tire is bent, and exaust is smashed in.

i suffereda closed fx radius and ulna on my left wrist. my bones were 3 ins apart from each other. and i got pretty banged up. i was extremely lucky. i was wearing a leather jacket, nice gloves, and boots up to my shins, with a shoei bifold helmet (it didnt break somehow), and levi jeans.

my good friend robert was not so lucky in that he has 4 broken ribs, broken arm, collapsed lung, and nearly severed leg. he has been taken to stanford hospital and will be there from 6 months to a year, they are not sure if they can save his leg. he was wearing a leather jacket, a cheap helmet that tore apart, no gloves and tennis shoes.

If you and your buddy ever ride again you might want to check out the advice available on this site in the 1Rider and Crash Analysis sections. :thumbup

Hey, I am sorry about you and your friend. I hope you guys heal up from the accident.

Frankly, I think you guys were not being careful enough, but we all have to remember our riding brothers and sisters are involved, and refrain from the personal attacks.

I hope you guys are doing better.

Hey Erik,

Thanks for posting... and I know this will end up becoming something that the Moderators of this board will have to watch closely.. so all please be aware to remain somewhat respectful here.

I am really sorry to hear about the crash man.. it sucks and being hurt sucks. Sounds like Robert is going to have a long journey back to recovery. I really hope his leg will heal.

Sounds like he is a newer rider to me.. an experienced rider would not be doing triple digits in shit for gear.. in fact every time I see anyone without gloves I mudder rookie to myself.. it is dumb. I won't ride with someone like that because I know they are a rookie or just not smart and likely they have never fallen off a moto before or they would have gloves on.

Harley guys may be an exception to this because it is part of the culture, but sport bikers where gloves and you know that because you were.

The folks that are not shedding a tear for you guys have their reasons and yes.. I am sure a lot of have gone that fast.. I know I have, but I doubt it was ever in an area with anything, but a driveway to a farm on it. Certainly not around restaurants and stuff like that where cars are likely to be entering or exiting the road.

You guys made a mistake in judgement on where to boogie and Robert made many by going fast without the right gear.

Experience and knowledge will come.. and I certainly feel for you guys because I ride and I have been hurt and I know it sucks. I imagine his family is very distressed about the whole deal as is yours. That too sucks.

There are many very experienced riders here that are really good on a bike. There are many experience riders here that are good with making the right decisions.

There are many who are good at both. Being good at both still holds no promises. Motorcycles are dangerous... and when you don't have the above your chances of getting hurt are greatly increased.

Unfortunately your friend and you got screwed up and because of some of the facts folks are going to use this as an example for others to learn from or hope that you guys will come back smarter and wiser about where to do it, what to wear.. etc.

In any case it has provided another negative example to the non riding public and to the police as well and that is also something the bulk of the riders here don't like to see.

I wish you a speedy recovery and really hope the best for your friend.

Hang in there Erik.

Perhaps, in time, Erik and Robert can do what most experienced riders do post crash which is to analyze what they did wrong and formulate steps/actions they will take in future to avoid a repeat.

For some it's never to ride again, which is a perfectly legitimate course of action for those who choose it, for others it leads to wiser riding, generally resulting in a more cautious approach to street riding.

Hoping for a full recovery for both riders.

You're welcome, Erik. Glad to hear there's a light at the end of the tunnel for you two. Hang in there. Give my regards, love, good vibes and prayers to Robert.

Yeah, around here tough love is the norm, but because all one million monkeys stole from the cookie jar, it doesn't give the next monkey a carte blanche. You were way above the customary pushing the limits at triple digits and wearing cheap little gear. I'm sure you and Robert learned a thing or two.

Clairvoyant too? I wanna be like you when I grow up. :)

Erik,

We freely dispense "tough love" here on barf, we are also pretty good at taking care of each other.

Rest assured that 99.9% of us want ONLY the best for you and your friend , and wish that this horrible event had never happened.

Please let Robert know that we're pulling for him :thumbup

+1. It's easy to become dismissive of the same shit every year (riders being a bit too reckless), but we definitely have all been there.

Play stupid games and win stupid prizes..

Try not to be so selfish. Innocent motorists loose their lives every day because of people like you and your friend. Man up and take responsibility for your actions. Use your head next time and take it to the track.

100mph in a 55mph and your not only shocked that you crashed, your offended that some of us here are calling you two dumbasses? :wtf

I just hope you walk away from all of this with something learned..
