Marin County pair injured in high-speed motorcycle collision

I signed up for Robert's journal. It's beed one month since the accident.

I wish Robert well and a full and speedy recovery. I hope his squid days are behind him. Ain't worth it.

Dear lord!

Well, at least the young man is alive with 100% mental faculties from what i know.

That is a saving grace for sure.

50 years from now Robert can bore the kids with tales of his wild and crazy days! :laughing

Truly, all the best for Robert, family and friends.

Very sorry to hear of this accident. No strong judgments from me. I've been through there at speed as well, it just took time to learn that this area is a bad spot for speed. Some of us learn things before bad things happen, it's just luck. Motorcycles are dangerous, and can be the most fun you can ever have.

Heal up and best wishes and prayers to your friend.

My goodness.. indeed a long challenge for Robert and his family.

Best wishes on getting home soon Robert.

Thanks for sharing that Marc.

hello barfers, my name is erik dyvad. thank you to all the supporters and everyone who is wishing us the best of luck on recovery and keeping us in their prayers especially for robert.

secondly fck everyone else who are calling us dumbasses or we got what we deserved, because i can gaurente that pretty much ALL of you have broken the speed limit with a friend n gone 100 mph.

also the cop eric was not very nice and really was trying hard to see if we were on drugs or drinking, while i wanted to see if my friend was ok. and his story is not totally correct.

im not positive if robert and i collided, one peice of info that would suggest we didnt was that my bike made one set of tracks al the way to the pole. i would think if we collided on the street my bike would not have been able to stay up on its own and hit the pole like it did. i would also thnik that i would have been ejected over the street and not in the dirt at those speeds.

im going to get picures of the scene and perhaps post them if ppl are interested

roberts bike has about 500$-1000 worth of damage, front fering ripped off, scrached all around, pipe ripped off and rear tail smashed. looks like it could still run

my bike on the other hand is totaled, forks are cracked, front ferring is ripped off, frame is cracked in half, engine casing is cracked, rear tire is bent, and exaust is smashed in.

i suffereda closed fx radius and ulna on my left wrist. my bones were 3 ins apart from each other. and i got pretty banged up. i was extremely lucky. i was wearing a leather jacket, nice gloves, and boots up to my shins, with a shoei bifold helmet (it didnt break somehow), and levi jeans.

my good friend robert was not so lucky in that he has 4 broken ribs, broken arm, collapsed lung, and nearly severed leg. he has been taken to stanford hospital and will be there from 6 months to a year, they are not sure if they can save his leg. he was wearing a leather jacket, a cheap helmet that tore apart, no gloves and tennis shoes.

heres is roberts caring bridge website for those who are interested

I think the avatar name is fitting in this situation as you almost lost your life being a dumb young man. You are very lucky to be alive my young man as I'm sure you are aware. You though were the lucky one.

Sure your bike it totaled but seriously that is the last thing I would be worried about if I were you. There are legal actions that you can easily suffer if your friends family so decides to come after you. My advise is watch what you say that can be used later against you. It's already determined that he hit his brakes and you hit him thus making you liable for the accident and thus responsible for your friends extended stay in the hospital in the eye of the law. I sure hope to god you had insurance and a drivers license. 6 months to a year in a Hospital equals a LOT of money and no matter how much of a friend your friend is at some point they will be looking to you for payment.

As far as riding, I sure hope that you learned a huge life lesson and will NEVER do this or anything like it again.

I pretty much bet if your friend ever walks right again he will have learned a dire lesson.

Oh and yes I have been 100mph on public roads before. Hell I have been almost 150mph before. However, I did it in a location where I could see for miles, with proper gear and very little risk other than a catastrophic failure of my bike or something. There is a time and place for everything but the hard part is having the common sense to know when is the right time and to what level you can safely push it............/end lecture.
