Missing hood and stripped interior

I drove around in my '65 Chevy C10 pickup with no hood for a while after rebuilding the motor. Never had a problem, and it looked cool with the hinges sticking up. Some guys chrome plate them for that very reason!

Here is the section that was referenced:
24002. (a) It is unlawful to operate any vehicle or combination of
vehicles which is in an unsafe condition, or which is not safely
loaded, and which presents an immediate safety hazard.
(b) It is unlawful to operate any vehicle or combination of
vehicles which is not equipped as provided in this code

Says nothing about a hood.

I couldnt find any section that requires a vehicle to have a hood.

IIRC. I had overheard someone complaining once about being cited for no hood. For the exact reason that Corndog listed.

The LEO considered it "Tampered Emission" equipment. The hilarity of it, was when he purchased a hood, it was a carbon fiber replacement. Then did the ole' Ref trip.. Ref turned him down for NOT having that label as well.

YMMV..

and a Jaguar hood ornament isn't?

The Battlejag approves this message. :thumbup

(The battlejag is also without a hood at the moment :laughing)

my grandpa used to have a supercharges goat with no hood...

he told me that it was legal because he had engine straps

donno for sure though

/shrug

JPM is a LEO and answered the question what code he'd cite under. I'll take his opinion over yours, no offense.

None taken. Just pointing out that there's no specific law requiring a hood. So, driving a car without one is kind of a crap shoot. Maybe JPM would cite you for it. Other LEOs might not.

I think i'm going to take my chances. Thanks for the input guys :)

If you get stopped, as the officer if you're required to have a windshield or steering wheel. *Which I've seen both of, and couldnt find a section to write it for.*

Um, what? :wtf

Yep, stopped a guy for a burnt out tail light, and he didnt have a round steering wheel. He has rigged something to turn the vehicle, *a couple suicide knobs on a stick*, and he asked me if it was legal. I couldnt find a reason that it wasnt.

If I remember correctly, suicide knobs are actually illegal in CA, but I don't know for certain. Let me see if I can find the code.

I would agree about the knobs, but the real question is this: does on need a steering wheel?

How can they be illegal? Some handicapped people require them to operate a vehicle.

If you are a LEO, and you perceive it as a safety issue, then the answer is obvious.

I can't find the VC, but it is routinely illegal in most states, with exceptions for those that need them. I can find lots of statements that it's illegal in CA, but I can't find the VC. Nor can I find one that stipulates a steering wheel.

i got pulled over 4 no tag like 5 times and i didint have a hood the cop nave lookted twice anf this was on in 84 full size jimme
