How many "small displacement models" need to be sold to make the same margin as a Multistrada or a Bimmer Adventure bike? Same amount of work writing them up and setting them out the door...

The Honda dealer in Salinas has quietly plugged along for decades, they rarely even open on weekends. I know they sell a few motorcycles, but you have to want one get one....
Most of their money is made selling and servicing ATV's and Utility vehicles to the big farms in the area.
Its been a few days & still haven't heard anything from them about my deposit. Looks like I have to go to my credit card company and file a dispute. What a pain! Was on the list for 6 weeks and was supposed to have my bike by next week. LOL. Good news, I was able to snag an unsold one yesterday. So at least I don't have to get back in line.
Plug for Munroe Motors in SF. When I reached out to them with my situation the GM was fantastic. He talked to the manufacturer rep and got permission to move my place in line to any dealership of my choice without losing the spot. Had I not picked up the bike yesterday, I would have definitely gone with Munroe Motors. I am going to use them for service needs.
Lessons for future: Always use a credit card (major one) for deposit purposes & do it only if estimated wait time is less than the time where you CC will allow dispute if things go south. No debit cards, check, cash etc.
I'd assume the manufacturers are/soon will be moving their floored inventory at Monterey to other dealers. They sure aren't going to let them just gather dust.
Maybe so.. but where’s my deposit? Not asking you.. just a rhetorical question..

Long-term big picture in the rear-view mirror...In 1988-@1995 San Luis Obispo city had over six motorcycles shops from dealerships to independents, now like a couple of very small independents. College town of 45,000 people and that's it. As the Boomers die off/age-out it's going to be a very tiny number of riders under 50. Societal changes abound. We've had a lot of fun though haven't we...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnGzl-OEyGE

Joe Rossi has not owned the dealership for years and did not take your deposit.![]()

I don't know who that is.. but Monterey Powersports did take $500 from me and is no longer around to return it. I'll take it from Rossi or Marquez or whoever... Gimme my money back![]()
Research the corp status who you paid the deposit to. Might want to do this on the quick. In CA, ALL deposits are refundable. Out it in writing and request to pickup a check, etc.
Here's the corp info I dug up: Agent of service is at the bottom:

Joe Rossi owned "Monterey Peninsula Sports Center", not "Monterey Peninsula Powersports".
He's an established Salinas business owner with a couple of tire stores that decided to try his hand in moto dealerships. He bought the Yamaha-Suzuki Sports Center around 2000, then the Honda-Kawasaki-Duc dealer a few years later, combined them, and did ok, give or take Aprilia, BMW, and Triumph coming and going. He sold the dealership years ago.

I hope it works out for you!![]()
Joe Rossi was/is a great guy- I bought a couple motorcycles from him in the prior location, I think it was Fremont Blvd or a parallel of that. I'd be surprised if he has much to do with things- he's quite above board. I'd turn my attention to what the "new" group that took over the place from Rossi. Did they buy it & when? What's the names on the corporation or it still living in the LLC?
Well done. I'd serve Rossi in any case- he would be motivated to get the proper information to you quickly. Since he si still listed as AoS, that makes me wonder did the title of the company actually change hands or is that deal I spoke of a couple posts above still in place?
The plot thickens...
Edit, not seeing any change of ownership; https://bizfileonline.sos.ca.gov/api/report/GetImageByNum/176253169019067077236113051212139254069047100248
edit: Claude Hickens is listed as the principle, on the LC the city has. Mr Higgins died 4 years ago and was big in powersports/cars in Utah.
He also owned a Coors distributorship in Salinas many years ago.Joe Rossi owned "Monterey Peninsula Sports Center", not "Monterey Peninsula Powersports".
