More Time To Get Fit - 2025

Accountability helps me. I don't wanna kill myself but I do want to be consistent. I appreciate the encouragement!
I can tell you what we all want…a big happy smile (I’m not asking you to post a picture of yourself, just let us know that you had a huge smile on your face after you finish your day). With that said here is my smile after Broken Arrow. My wife’s friends made the posters.

I got 3rd in the championship for SuperSport at my local MTB race series. I finished the 8 rounds with two 4ths, two 5ths, one 7th, two 8ths, and a 10th. I improved a lot over the season, but a few small mistakes kept me off the race podiums. The kid (18yo) that won the 'ship got a perfect score, winning 6 in the drop-2 series. The guy in 2nd is my coach's boss and I didn't manage to beat him

i’m loving the happy finisher faces. thanks for your kind words.

walked just a bit today as the foot was a bit sore. tried to throw a leg over the transalp. i’m definitely stiffer than pre-accident when my ROM was good. i almost cleared the seat. came inside and did a bunch of stretching to open up my hips. happy baby, bound angle. bridge pose, and figure four. i can still touch my toes/the floor when standing so that’s rad. i also managed to get off the floor on my own. i noticed an immediate improvement in my gait, less limp, more smooth. my apple watch has been sending me fall risk warnings and hopefully i can get steadier with more strength and stretching.

edit for june 25 instead of adding a new post:

got my mile pace from 35 to 28 minutes by remembering tylenol and stretching out beforehand. i also put in a bit more gusto and got up to 0.65 miles today.

3 days ago, pulled a major stupid. bent over and picked up 60+ pounds (no knees - full on back). couple of hours later my lower back felt like it had knives in it. could barely walk. had to use my arms to brace myself to sit and stand up. totally incapacitated. fuck me. had no clue what to do, so didn’t do anything (except bitch about it). weird bit is, this evening it was gone as fast as it came. pain one minute. no pain the next. all good now. am mildly curious as to an explanation (the cure, not the cause).

Hey, Littlebeast, the cure is in your name (actually I have no idea why you are better but would recommend taking it easy for another day or two just to make sure).

Also we were up in your neck of the woods on Saturday for western states. One of our friends was running it and we were watching his kiddo for the weekend so he and his wife could concentrate on running and crewing. He finished in 27 hours. It was a great weekend because on top of that my kiddo had their first swim meet and in two of the events took a 4th and 5th. I’m impressed by that because they had missed 70% of practice, time trials and one meet already because of dance. Now that dance is over that little knucklehead can focus on swim.

You were active during the day, that loosens up the issue in your back, but I'll bet that when you get up, you'll be having spasms again in your back.

The key to getting moving is to avoid the spasms, easier said than done. You have to keep your posture balanced, any lack of vertical alignment can put your back into another spasm which is re-injuring it. After awhile, it will loosen up and as long as you continue to keep moving, it will stay loosened up. But any extended period of not moving will allow it to tighten up.

Good luck with that, hopefully you didn't do something that will keep cropping up several times a year.

This, IME.

OMG, dude. we worked the western states (robinson flat). was the walking wounded, but a commitment is a commitment. powered through. wish i’d known you were in the vicinity. would’ve chased you down.

have a lot of spine issues (3 fractured vertebrae in my neck, and less severe, but equally painful lower back spinal injuries).

wrt the current, no spasms this morning. just localized, acute pain in the lumbar vertebrae. for whatever reason, for me, muscle pain is difficult to manage (restricts movement). bone pain? ignorable. am used to it.

My wife was supposed to volunteer at one of the medical aid stations (she’s a physical therapist) and I think it was Robinson Flat but I’m not sure if that was it. Needless to say she backed out to help our friend. Sooooo close to meeting you LB.

PSA: Saw that there is a nice Garmin on sale at Amazon: Garmin 010-02626-10 Instinct 2

At $170 seems like a good deal for a nice watch. I'm moving away from Fitbit after my current one, this Garmin may be my next watch, it has 28 day battery life.

The Garmin watches are the industry standard. My Fenix 5 lasted 5 years and I recently replaced it with the outgoing Epix gen2, which is the Fenix 7 with an AMOLED screen. My 5 was still running strong so I gave it to my wife, but she lost it ☹️. I know the Instinct models are loved by outdoors peeps because of the battery life. I think you will find the watch useful and enjoyable.

I had the Garmin Forerunner 301 back in the early 2000's that worked really well for me. Still have the data from it. The chest band was less convenient than the fitbit, but worked good.

I wear my Forrunner 225 every day and its rock solid. Charge it once a week. I may need a new strap soon (fuckin A garmin use lube on the prices of those please) but aside from that, I'm happy.
