More Time To Get Fit - 2025

i am displeased to report that the battery life in my apple watch 2 is poop.

I only take my Forerunner 965 off for showers and MTB races. I charge it approx once every 2wks while in the shower. That 20min charge is enough to add ~50% battery. It comes off for MTB races so there's no chance of crash damage.

Aside from the price, I would never buy an Apple watch because of it's battery life. Simply stupid for that kind of device.
it has a lot of features i love. and it was free so there’s that. :)

My primary uses for my fitbit are monitoring my sleep, alarms and tracking my bike riding. The latter in the V4 Versa are less than satisfying as some moron changed the programming to take away features that I used.

Fenix 7 has been fantastic thus far. Battery life is excellent.

Your wrist is far more likely to get damaged than your Forerunner.

this is so minor but so satisfying. going down the stairs it’s been left foot down, right leg to the same stair, left foot down, in a stilted motion. today i was able to walk down the stairs normally and i'm really happy about that. going up has been normal for a while now. i’m also averaging about 6500 steps a day. i’m still hurting but getting closer to normal.

Outstanding, TWT! I remember issues of going down stairs when I've let my 4 surgery leg get too weak. It's a very good milestone!

physical therapists are neat and i love mine. turns out the trouble going down stairs is not about strength but about my ability to dorsiflex. we’re working on some new range of motion exercises to help me as well as some balance stuff. i asked how many sessions i had left and he said “until i think you’re in good shape and i have done my job.”

what’s really cool are the common sense, do at home exercises or stuff like “walk to the beat of a metronome to even out your gait and minimize your limp.”

Flexibility is always a positive thing for fitness. Of the 5 factors that determine your potential in a sport, flexibility is the most mutable.

One thing that keeps my knees healthier than anything else and keeps my legs the most balanced out is riding a bike consistently (4 times a week).

my left foot is angry the last few days. swollen. surly.

i went for a short pushbike ride on the old skool stump jumper i bought from @Roundboy and i’m grinning ear to ear. i only rode for a few minutes but my ankle approves. my ticker got up in the high RPMs but i didn’t feel winded. this also has me smiling.

I know Robert recommended a cycling computer with a touch screen but couldn’t resist getting a Garmin 530 for a pretty good price. The buttons and functions are very similar to my Garmin Epix watch (all Garmin watches for that matter) so it’s been easy to use. Creating and uploading rides is super easy. My next purchase will be a heart rate monitor to pair with it and a power meter. For the sake of cost I’m looking at the SRAM Apex crank arm power meter (the Ari came with SRAM group set). I think it will do just fine for me as a newbie to cycling.

Hit the gym 3 times last week which was nice as schedule previously was preventing me from making it that much. I think this week is going to be 3 days as well and next week will do 4 days so I can incorporate a leg day without cutting down other exercises to accommodate including it on another day.

I am awaiting a new fridge before I can start meal prepping and working on my diet. it really sucks when you are using a mini fridge to house all your stuff it really makes you think about what you can keep on hand. Having to shop pretty much every day to get things and trying to plan meals so there are no leftovers.
