More Time To Get Fit - 2025

It's funny. Since my heart attack back before Thanksgiving I've consciously thrown TRAINING out the window. I've just been riding by feel, and doing my riding as much as a social thing as anything.
My VO2 Max took a hit in the aftermath of the heart attack, but now it's back above what it had been and my FTP has crept up past what it was before the event, too.
This is with nothing more than the mountain bike class I teach once a week and the weekend rides I've been getting in.
I'm planning on resuming structured workouts at some point, but for this year I've just canned all my racing plans in favor of rediscovering the joy in it, and that has been extremely rewarding.
Fuck yeah. One of my best friends had a heart attack while mountain biking. Im glad you’re both still here. Im all in favor of putting anything down when its not serving you. Finding joy matters. Stoked to hear you found it.

Another Friday weigh in day.

228 last week. 225.6 this week.
Good progress... a couple lbs a week is solid for me and does not feel radical.
That’s ideal. Quick drastic changes usually don’t last. You don’t want to yo-yo. Awesome progress Bud.

Looks like this week is a lost gym week.

Was going to try and hit it 3 days but Monday had AC issues at the house that required me to get up in the attic and do some work. fitting my XXL frame into an XS space did a number on my knees so that day was out. Tuesday had the same thing but at a rent house so that screwed that night up. Wednesday had to do major yard work as the rest of the week is projected as monsoon weather and needed to get the pond cleaned up as my daughters BF is planning on proposing to her and wanted to do it on the island in the pond so need to make sure its presentable and was doing that until 9pm gym closes at 10pm. Last night was the monsoon so was not worth driving to town. Hopefully tonight is at least one day I can make it. Saturday is more yardwork around the pond and putting the brisket on the pellet grill for its 18 hour journey to deliciousness. Sunday is finish up brisket do 2 racks of ribs in prep for the family get together that night and the proposal which whole family will be here for and hopefully daughter does not suspect her BF's plan as we decided to do it on just another family Q day.

New fridge gets here Tuesday so first week of August seems like the start of a new diet and 4 day workouts.

Yard and house work is still exercise that can provide gains 👍
well mostly sitting on zero turn mowing for long stretches of time and way less time swinging a weedwhacker. Multiple acres sucks just saying. Although I am thinking about buying some zoysia grass plugs and scattering them across the yard so they eventually choke out the bahia grass and it won't get so tall so quick.

I saw this and thought of you and your journey of recovery.

Thank you. I'm nowhere near the beast that she is but appreciate the comparison!

I have been slacking on the walking because it hurts. I've gone on a few short bicycle rides. Mainly I just consider my puttering around in the garden to be my exercise for the moment.

It isn’t about her beast vs yours, it’s people overcoming injury to accomplish what they love.

Im pretty happy about my Wharf to Wharf run today. That’s about as fas as I can go. I haven’t really been training very strictly so this was a bit of a surprise. 4 pre race Advil definitely help things feel better lol One very sweaty post race selfie. 16k in attendance and it sure looked like it at the start. Fun day.

i walked my longest continuous distance yesterday (1.1 miles). i had hoped to be at two miles by now but the limp abides and so does the pain. i did walk 3.99 miles total yesterday. slow and steady and all that.

^ Yay! Stacking good days never fails.
dammit. now i’m gonna try to get to the nearest intersection so i can surpass yesterday.

it didn’t kill me. just made me sore. “pain is weakness leaving the body” and all that.

editing to add that i went 1.13 miles today then puttered around in the garden for 45 minutes. i did a mile in 26:00. that’s a big improvement since the boot first came off.

Well new fridge is in so no more excuses. Also shit got real one of the twin girl units got engaged this weekend and I don't want to be fat dad walking her down the aisle so I gotz one year to whip my fat ass into shape wish me luck.

It was a sad day I told the kids that I am going to look like Arnie after I lose weight and do a bunch of illegal mexican steroids and all I got was a blank look and Who's this Arnie guy. I almost cried at the sad state of affairs for our youth as they don't even know the Governator.

So I lost the ability to put up weight like I used to before I kind of had a gym hiatus so this time around I am forcing my body to adapt quicker by putting 5 extra pounds of weight on each week so that it hopefully forces me back to where I was before and I was kind of wussing out before so am now going full bore to get back where I was.

Tonight is one of my favorite days as it back day. shrugs, lat rows and good mornings, oh my.

BEEEEEEFCAAAAAAKE.

:love

Congrats to your daughter.

Thanks you all. I like her boyfriend and not just because he gets me into a swanky golf course for super cheap. He's a good guy and takes care of her and loves her to death so me and moms are happy for them. mama bear has let it be known he better take good care of her or the claws will come out pretty sure he got the hint.

It was a good day despite all the issues we had going up to that day. In case you didn't see it somewhere else I did a fat BBQ. was doing an 18 hour brisket on the smoker so put it on Sat night at 5pm and had to run to the store later to get some more pellets for overnight. Left went to store and came home to see fire coming out of the grease drain and flames shooting out of the grill lid. Got the grill turned off and when I finally got the fire out my beautiful brisket was a charred hunk of meat. So brisket was now out and that is my daughters favorite thing. called her and told her the horrible news so we pivoted to her picking up some steaks for Sundays dinner as I could still do the ribs for everyone else. Then she texts me Sunday to say she is going to be late because she dropped the mac & cheese she was making so has to redo it. But we got the ribs cooked, the mac & cheese redone and the ribeyes she brought cast iron pan seared to actually have a great family dinner and proposal was a complete surprise to my daughter.
Go get it. Just 1 more...1 more. For every set.
Man I really wish I had a spotter most days so I could just push out one more without dropping it on my head because right now I have to make sure I have enough juice to push once more on a lot of exercises but I don't because I am not sure I can make it back up. But if I can I do try to get just one more and sometimes if I don't finish a set I "punish" myself by lowering the weight and doing another set.
