More Time To Get Fit - 2025

Here’s today’s ride. These are 30/30s, 30s sprints with 30s recovery between. They start anaerobic but transition to VO2Max after 3min or so. These are a short set, only 3x6, because coach knows im cooked from yesterday. And now I'm more dead, RIP.

Now it’s time to eat, nap, and then go lift 💀💀💀

At least I get tmrw off (or a recovery spin) 🤪

Mike in butt scrunch yoga pants will distract everyone his yoga class. I agree, def do it!
For the volume of sweat I produced in an very hot and humid room, my swim speedo's may have been more appropriate. :laughing If anyone really thinks I'm worth watching, Simpkins Swim Center is my jam. I'll share a lane with anyone who wants to try a swim workout with me.

I'm lucky enough to have a Yoga partner who looks amazing in anything and who's yoga chops are light years beyond mine. I'm gonna try to get through the hot class ;)

Sauna or hot bath after workouts is a proven way to make gains. You should see gains in all aerobic metrics up to VO2Max.

I don't have graphs or awesome results to share, but I got a nice bump from the Physical Therapist today at my first outside PT session.
I went through a bunch of physical tests, measurements on range of motion, poking of the injured spot to pinpoint the trouble spots etc.

The Therapist said she was super pleased how well I did on my own PT and my state of the union. I was much further along than she expected basically and expecting in a month I will be walking normal and back to the gym to carry on with building back the leg muscles. Then they can focus a bit more on the shoulder.

I got more exercises now and a little more on stretching too. It is not fitness per say, but it is a step towards it.

That's great to hear! And close to Christmas, too. You must be on the nice list :laughing Hopefully as you build back the leg muscles the discomfort in driving will subside.

Has being more bootylicious ever been bad for anyone for anything?

Dick-butt not included per budman request.
Being booty-licious is the best.

I rented a Lyft pedal bike today and did a 5+ mile loop through part of GG Park and back near my apartment. :teeth

Guess who can walk more than a mile at a time without lots of pain? ME!

:banana

Something in the last week or so has shifted. Tonight I walked 1.6 miles continuously, which is the longest single walk I have taken in a long time. I am a bit tender but fine. I'll be really glad when I can do my old walk again. I won't stop pedaling or rowing but more variety is nice.

My VO2 max is also creeping out of below-average finally. That's been the biggest insult of this all.

I’ve done 2 more 30/30 workouts since my last post about them. Here’s the end of yesterday’s. The final interval was 100w stronger than on Dec 18th, a ~25% increase. The coach found the perfect way, over a couple of weeks, to tell my body to wake the f up. And this came after 8.5hrs of riding over the weekend. I think I’m finally back to fitness levels from my last race. Maybe better in some aspects.

Only 2 days left to rack up more hours of exercise this year! You’ll get to see my Year in Sport on the 31st cuz it’s a rest day for me.

👏

i told you you’d rock yourself back into beast mode.
i was talking about you and this thread today while walking echo lake down in LA. you in the sense of cycling specific stuff, the thread in the sense of how much knowledge and encouragement we can tap here.

Here we go. This year I more than doubled my lifting hours, which subtracted about 1000mi from my riding. But I feel strong and healthy, so it was def a good trade. I don’t know if I have another one of these years in me… but I think I said that last year too 😅

Here are my race finishes. The worst one was near my avg finish last year. So my improvement is def measurable/noticable. I really hope to make another jump and get some of those under 120%.

I’ve enjoyed lurking in this thread in 2025, following the exploits of the racers and the recovery of my friends from their various mishaps …

I had to lose some weight, recently—probably took a couple of years, but I’m down from 203 lbs to 151 lbs at the end of this year.

my new year’s resolution at the beginning of 2025 was to stop using the elevator up to my 6th floor apartment, and to walk 10k steps a day, both of which I did:

I’ve vaguely tried to use some progression with my walking, and with that in mind I’ve started climbing stairs for the hour of walking I do at work (two 15 minute breaks and a half hour lunch), recently—and the goal is to stick with that in ‘26, and still be at around 150 lbs in 2027.

another vague goal for ‘26 is to enter a 10k organized event to walk. we’ll see how that ambition plays out. :rolleyes

you’re looking good these days, John. i’m proud of your work. :love I’ll bet CareBear is happy to see you taking steps to live a long and healthy life.

yes, Cary’s proud of me … I give her credit for teasing me about my love handles. I wuz all like, oh yeah? hold my beer and watch this. :x :laughing

she’s down about 20 lbs, too, recently. my main goal was that I was too out of shape, so that setting up/taking down my tent when I went camping was getting super painful. I’m happy to report that almost everything is easier, now. :angel

I’ve enjoyed hearing about your progress in this thread … helps keep me motivated, too. :thumbup

it’s a great support network and everything is easier without gravitational enhancement. i’ve lost two big bags of dog food off my body, similar to you, and everything is so much easier than before. gotta lose one more bag by may. next bag loss date tbd. 🤣
