Multistrada?

Do you have personal experience with this? Or are you just regurgitating what you've read in Motorcyclist?

A friend essentially parked his all summer until he finally threw on a full Akra to mitigate the problem. He hated riding it, said it bogged terribly then surged dramatically. This echos the experience of many owners over on Ducati.net.

I ruled out the first-generation Multistrada 1200 due to all the complaints about wind noise and buffeting. Even with earplugs, my GSX-R750 is loud enough at 80mph to leave my ears ringing. Forgot my earplugs when I test-rode the 2015 Multistrada and despite riding at 75-80mph on the highway my hearing was fine at the end of the ride.

Valid concern, my '10 stock windscreen was the loudest I've ever owned. I solved it by throwing on a very low Pikes Peak shield, but it's essentially a naked bike now.

Do you think the new one is any better (edit: seems your test ride indicates yes)? The noise on the 13-14 is essentially the same as the 10-12 (again, from friends who have owned both). I can't imagine buying a leftover 2014 instead of a nearly identical '10-'11 for half the price.

The reviews I've read seem to suggest that the reshaped bodywork and larger windscreen on the 2013-2014 Multis make them somewhat better than the 2010-2012. Bodywork on the 2015 has changed again; dunno about the windscreen. I thought wind protection on the 2015 was good at 75-80mph but that's probably because I'm not very tall. Might also have been an unusually calm day or something. I'll probably test-ride the bike again before buying just to make sure the wind protection works for me.

All that's really different plastic-wise is the upper fairing; Ducati altered it slightly for the updated headlight housings for the LED low-beams. Other than that everything else (front fender, tank pieces, side & rear panels, taillight, etc.) is the same.

For me the stock screen on my 2013 "S" was noisy. Fortunately I met another owner who sold me his nearly-new CalSci screen. It's slightly taller and has a vent to reduce the negative pressure behind the screen. Works great even if it does flex a little at speed. :thumbup

hooli....

what updates on the '15??

I know about the software flash, but what else??

Sorry to derail OP.

May I ask which software flash? I may be getting myself one of those, and I see people talking about the ~4k torque dip, but haven't found a solution yet - lots of talk about the Termi kit, but no "stock" solution yet (that I could find).

Stock ECU update was released late last week. ducati.ms members are reporting no more lag or spontaneous boost. They're posting some dyno charts as well, so that should take that concern away.

Myself, I opted for the full termi upgrade, which gave me an early fix and a more aggressive tone under acceleration.

The fuel sensor had 4 revisions in the past year... I have the same one in my Diavel and I expect it to stop working yet again.

I think its a great bike if you're OK with dealing with typical Ducati BS - crappy warranty service with no loaners and random but not critical things breaking.

I miss getting loaners at the BMW dealer when my bike is in for service.

Ducati ownership is like dating some hot model babe with a bad coke habit and her father is in the Mafia.

You know you're gonna go broke and maybe get killed, but you just can't resist.

Because the sex is just that good. So good I bought two of them (996 & 748).:ride

Thanks - I've seen those but while they make the charts look slightly better, they don't seem to solve the problem completely. Not that this would keep me from getting one ($$$ is more like it), I was just curious whether I had missed a solution or not.

The hardest decision, of course, is "red or white"?

I just pinged the Motorcafe...

Flash me.. please!

I had a 13' Multistrada S Touring.

Great. Great bike; no complaints at all so I imagine the 2015 will be just as great if not better.

2012+ Ducati Multistrada is the bike id own if I had to consolidate to one bike...and actually had money.

One of the best street bikes imo

I notice you say 'had' - 2 years in and.... ?

Maybe I'm just poor, but I buy a machine like that, it's gonna be around for awhile.

Picked up a 14 PP after wife and I rented Multi, GSW and 1190ADV for a weekend each. We both preferred the Multi over the other two (I had assumed we were going to end up with the BMW). I was a bit concerned with the new model but honestly I prefer mine. Lighter, no DVT to think about and handles beautifully. Keep in mind the 13/14 are quite different from the first gen (10-12) in terms of motor and suspension, also small things the newer one has like single-handed screen adjustment are nice improvements. AFAIK all you're missing out on from the 15 is the cruise control and DVT. Can't go wrong with any of them honestly, tho.

Cruise control, DVT, lean-angle sensitive ABS and TC, cornering lights, gorgeous TFT display, improved switchgear, Skyhook Evo, Bluetooth, and probably a few other things I've forgotten. I ended up buying a 2016 Multi and have been loving it so far, but you're right: they're all great bikes!

My 2 cents, Buy a used Ducati now, Then trade it in on a 2016 KTM 1290 SMT.

Flash me.. please!

Flash is available.. bike going in soon. Hope it works. I am not thinking of putting pipes on the bike to resolve one problem and create a second one -- meaning a bunch of work to restore when I sell the bike.

Did they do it based on VIN?
