I'd say you're close, but it's antiintellectual smugness that's killing us. People who simply don't know things don't like to be reminded that they don't know things, they can't process it. So instead of learning or simply shutting up, they dig their heels in and screech and moan and belittle, doing their best to obfuscate and derail a discussion rather than watch the smart people carry on without them. That behavior is displayed to some degree by almost everyone, and a prime example is our president and all of his sycophants.
