Need 46mm socket

Thanks for suggestions everyone. I borrowed 46mm from hophead.

Oh yeah I completely forgot about Nu tools! Got hex bit for D675 front axle from them.

For future reference: Tool Mart in Daly City. From my experience, they have pretty much any tool you might want.

You might try sears. Usually sockets that big are with the axle nut sockets in auto parts stores. Looks like most auto parts stores have that as a special order item though.

You can always get it online:

also if you do get one, you will likely need a 3/4" to 1/2" adapter

I have that in my "saved for later" cart. I have a supposedly Ducati specific 46mm socket, but the problem is the rear nut is so shallow that keeping the socket on when trying to break the 150 ftlb torque is a pain. It's a serious design flaw of the SSSA.

yep. Tried with regular breaker bar, nada. Need to get extender or something.
The thing I realized with Ducati is form >>>> function.

McMaster-Carr is where we got our massive Ducati sockets.

The right sized socket, breaker bar, stand on it and have a friend hold the rear brake. :p

Gobs of options come up in Google by just typing 46mm socket

When you buy a Ducati go and buy the socket and breaker bar right away. I don't expect anyone but diesel mechanics to own a 46mm socket but we all need a big breaker bar for front sprocket nuts.

Shouldn't this have been posted in the Garage Forum? :laughing

No. :x

Thanks to hophead loaning 46mm socket and using a long bar the wheel came off. :teeth

As the wise man said:
“Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.”
or something like that.

I ordered that socket off 'Zon, because I'll be pulling the rear off the Ducati this weekend, and wanted to see if it was better than the other "Ducati specialty" socket at staying in place. And I'll also see how I do pulling the rear tire off the Vespa (first tire change on that one). Gotta drop the muffler, pull the muffler plate, and THEN pull the tire. yeah boy.........

Don't know about the GTS, but the LS150 exhaust drops in one piece pretty easy. It's a little fiddly getting it lined up and back on, but overall 2 on a scale of 10.

Yeah, it comes off in one piece, but there are the 2 nuts off the head, and then several off the plate, and then you need to cut a zip tie so it doesn't pull on the wiring harness...etc. Also, I'm going to try and do all the maintenance work on this scooter. So I'll be buying the specialty tools for that. I've already watched more than a few YouTube vids on maintenance procedures (the Scooterworks vid seems to me to be the best) and the process looks straight forward and easy enough (famous last words). I'm actually looking forward to wrenching on the little beasty. :laughing AND I did get the 46mm socket today, and I think it might work better than the "ducati wheel nut special tool". It fits nicely. We'll see.
