Look, some Ben guy is riding it already (in what looks to be U.S. colors):

That's complete bullshit!

I know for a fact that this isn't the way things are done at Cycle World. While their printed criticisms may not be overly harsh, the bikes are definitely ranked in order of performance without any undue influence by the manufacturers (aside from delivering cherry-picked bikes to the magazines, perhaps).

However, we all know that Motor-Sucklist will pick the CBR, because they've basically had their lips surgically attached to Honda's corporate ass for years.

Yeah whatever dude-----this bike is waaaay bitchin----looks like the R1 has jlos hooters surgeorically attached to the ass end...whats up w/the Mr Potatoe head rear end----dude???The HUGE radiator seems to indicate a rather curious surprise in the HP department.....the Tokiko brakes are an interesting twist---lets hope they work alot better than the susuckies-----and the best-----looks like the Ohlins is gonna fit ------hehehehe:teeth :teeth

lets not forget honda will also have ben and miguel on this bike vs who mladin and yates? yawn!

bbos and miguel!!

Hmmm.. 2 holes in one exhaust are definetely not as sexy as twin pipes on '04 Yamaha. Also i dont particularily dig the square looking headlights...For some reason it feels kinda retro-ish to me, especially with that Red/White/Blue paint scheme...
Silver black looks nicer though, can't wait to check it out in person. :thumbup

Also 160hp to Yamaha's 180 is definetely a let-down, we've been through this before... :(

Ohh well... if anyone can find honest multi-bike shootouts, please share! :)

So far it looks like R1 is the bike to get this year, but i will reserve the final word till '04 Gix comes out and read some reviews on those babes... :D

Ben or DuHamel doesn't stand a chance against Mladin. Mladin is so bad ass this year.

About the bikes. I think they are all great but I still prefer the Yamaha.:p

As an aside... an observation...

This Honda being ugly or not, IMHO, all the Japanese race-rep bikes are looking the same more-and-more every year.

Of course there are subtle(...and arguably not-so-subtle :p) differences, but how often do we see a: "...hey Mr. Green on the Red 600RR... uh or was it ZX6-R, or.... " confused comment on the forum :laughing

I know a lot has to do with "form follows function", but then again the visual trend kicked-off by many late 90's bikes, and the R1/R6 have essentially dominated the look of today's hyper-bikes(with some notable exceptions such as the Hyabusa). Now underseat exhaust and radial brakes are the defacto rage.... *sigh* Marketing 101

Anyway, all nice looking bikes, but I wish there were a little more aesthetic design ingenuity coming from the competing Japanese mainstream bikes. I think it would be more interesting, refreshing, and ultimately more beneficial for the individual marques to set themselves apart.

Anyway, just thinking out loud..... :teeth

Hehe like someone said there are only 3 types of bikes:
Ducati, BMW and Harley. Each of them try to do things their own way... the rest of them are simply... immitators.. :twofinger :D

Trackho,

Why is the bike "waaaay bitchin"? It looks like a warmed over 600RR. There really isn't a whole lot special about that bike except for the exhaust, if you like under-tail exhausts, and the shock linkage setup. The new steering damper is a nice little gimmick that will get removed from any serious race bike. The bike is going to weigh a ton, just the like the 600RR.

The new R1 may not be to your liking, but it certainly is an attractive bike.

The Tokico radial-mount calipers on the GSX-R1000 are fine. The brake pads that Suzuki chose is the problem there.

Dude this bike is going to OWN AMA Superbike next year...
WHY YOU ASK?
One reason:
Dual Stage Injectors - STOCK
The Suzuki GSXR added them in the racing kit, but AMA is not going to allow them next year, so the GSXRs will be down 10-15HP alone...
The bike is the most tested and setup handling bike in the world.
Take HRC, MotoGP, the CBR600RR, and the largest most expensive R&D dept in the world...you get the best overall package...
Most HP? Sounds like the R1?
Best suspension setup? We'll see, I say Honda
Best looking? Yamaha
Best anti-theft setup? Only Honda even cares
Best stock steering damper? Can you say 32bit CPU controlled?

HONDA WILL WIN EVERY SHOOTOUT NEXT YEAR...you have heard it here first.

right, best looking is the yahama, which is basicaly a 600rr clone.

this bike is going to be sick.

..... oh geez, does Honda know that? Someone should let them know. I'm sure they don't want an infirm bike upon it's initial release :wow

OOOOHHHHH, you mean "sick".... yeah, m-kay... s-i-c-k :laughing

Sorry, couldn't resist, I'm just feeling silly tonight ;)

Lets hope its a warmed over 600RR, seems that Honda really came up with ALOT of innovative stuff, things like mass centralization are nothing new, BUT Honda appears to have really gone after these goals, the other bikes just seem like 3 yr rehashes--with some new casting technology, and bolt on goodies, sos heres my list:

1) mass centralization---taken seriously
1.5) new pro-link suspension---I think that the gains will be more evident w/more HP (than the 600RR)
2) massive radiator---first thing that goes on seriously pumped racebikes...wonder why they did that
3) The same brakes everyone is raving about on the Kawis
4) real, well thought out RAM air
5) track suspension/Geometry
6) No ridiculous "at the crank" HP figures---yet
7) Electronic steering damper---most likely a Honda Gimmick--but an interesting innovation none-the less
8) Longest swingarm---most aggressive rake
9) Well thought out underseat exhaust
10) Dual Stage FI
11) Its a Honda........
12) They are SMOKIN everything in world supersport--'specially the Kawis----granted AMA they are showing a tad more weight---none the less, they seem to be doing preety dran well on the high HP tracks
13) Everone keep bitchin 'bout the weight (of the 600RR), when an easy 20 lbs will be jettisoned w/the exhaust---granted other bikes will save weight via race exhaust--but the delat in typically much larger on the Hondas due to strict adherence with CA emissions
14) Honda NEEDs this bike to kick ass in AMA and WSB
15) Honda has dominated every level of professional racing, when they have tried hard, I dont think they can do this w/o passing on a few nuggets to production bikes
16) After finding out the depths of track sacrifice the 929 has paid for streetability---there is a ton of stuff that seems to be remedied for the track
17) Cant stand Yamahas

Trackho,

Please. Don't be such a cheerleader.

Honda has dominated at every level of professional motorcycle racing because they spend the most money by far and hire the best riders and mechanics.

The only place the RC51 dominates is where Honda spends big dollars. At the club level, the RC51 is a joke.

The CBR600RR is getting its ass handed to it by Yamaha in the USA. In Europe it is winning because Ten Kate has deep pockets, massive support from Honda, a great team and great riders.

The CBR1000RR will not out perform the Suzuki, the new R1, or the new ZX-10 with equal dollars spent. That's how Honda's have always been. The CBR600RR did nothing to change that nor will the CBR1000RR.

The CBR1000RR will be a nice bike. But try being realistic about it, okay?
