No Chris Rock / Will Smith thread? I'm disappointed in you guys

Seeing posts on social media from black friends and family, not one of them said anything about this incident setting the black community back.

Only seen this sentiment from anyone that isn't black but that's just anecdotal. In my view, anyone that has this sentiment says more about them and what they think about black people than anything else.

Anybody saying this, black or not, is being fucking stupid.

- A black guy

Its interesting man the people I have seen saying this are OLD AF (aka born before 1975 lol) or Black Conservatives. And I definitely agree it shows a degree of monolithic thinking and ignorance.

Smith banned for 10 years from the Oscars and is off to Rehab (stress rehab) at one of the fanciest joints around:

fter the attack on Chris Rock at this year's Oscars, Will Smith will seek expert help to deal with stress at a celebrity rehab clinic. The American actor was the star of the Academy Awards night when he slapped the comedian after he made a joke about the shaved hair of the actor's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia.

This moment had such repercussions that, as reported by the British newspaper 'The Sun', the artist will spend some time in a rehabilitation clinic. "The impact of the backlash has hit Will hard, so he will be getting help on dealing with stress," explained the newspaper.

"This is unquestionably the battle of his career. It will be a high-end retreat used by the rich and famous and he will be doing a lot of soul searching and working out how he can move forward," continued telling' The Sun'.

Will Smith hopes, according to the newspaper's source, to return in time to save his career and reputation. Recall that, after the official apology, the actor has already been dismissed from the Academy of Motion Picture Oscars after the assault.

If Chris Rock made a joke about Tom Cruise' wife (not even sure who he's married to these days) this wouldn't even be a race issue, just a forgettable celebrity issue.

And a fair fight :laughing

I did say anecdotal, at least twice. And I am not a part of the high council of black people.

Well, things like what you wrote above and things like:

Next time a high profile white person does something incredibly stupid, I'll keep it in mind to point out that their actions set back the white community.

I just don't get the "set back the black community" thing

Seem kind of unnecessarily hostile. I do not have a dog in this fight, I am not a member of the Black American community so I am unfit to judge them or provide any more than very casual observations on something that is not my lived experience, which is not usually super valuable.

Your later comments would in fact suggest you do understand the, "set back the black community thing," but are instead hostile to the idea and wish to aggressively oppose it.

I do not claim any right or wrong idea there, just an observation of logical threads.

Fair enough. There were a lot of thoughts on subject trying to funnel into words and responses.

Don't think hostile is the right word.

Cliff notes: Putting this in the "setting back the black community" is dumb but that doesn't mean we can't acknowledge that the stigma exists and is a problem some other races don't seem to have to deal with when they do stupid things.

I'd like to think if I was a serious douchebag around BARF all the time, it wouldn't make people judge the black community because of what I'm saying/doing.

The Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, alternatively known as the G.W. Zoo, Tiger King Park and formerly the Garold Wayne Exotic Animal Memorial Park, was an animal park displaying predominantly tigers and other big cats in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, United States.

I am inclined to disagree, when another White Man in Authority is caught on video sexually harassing a subordinate, do you not think it is a conversation amongst the vast majority of them who do not do that?

Do you think the vast public does not chime in?

Clearly they do, and negative stereotypes are a problem people have to deal with all over across race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.

It is not fair, it is bullshit, but it is an inescapable part of the human condition unfortunately.

I’d vote them off the island for sure.

LOL, why do you hate Cubans? :laughing

Not the same thing. When those conversations happen, is "set the white community back" a part of it? Or is it just recognizing the reality people can be real pieces of shit sometimes and the person in question did a shitty thing?

White people are not judged the same way when they fuck up. I really don't think that's a matter of opinion. Literally the entire history of America is proof of that.

Oh, it most certainly is. That example was specifically of White Men in Authority, a particular subset of a larger group, which combines men, people in authority, and honkies. This example is similar to the discussion regarding Will Smith seems to be about Black Men in particular, which is a subset of men and black people.

The observation some seem fearful of is not one based on race alone, but a combination both race and gender assumptions. I could continue with larger examples, such as the prejudice bias women face, but why?

We're going to just have to agree to disagree on this one, my friend.

yes, negative stereotypes are an issue many people need to deal with, but IMO black men are inordinately challenged in that regard. and no matter how much any white man in authority has been scrutinized or judged, it pales in comparison to the scrutiny (or fucked up judgement) inflicted on even the most pedestrian black man.

am speculating this is a ‘haven’t walked a mile in my shoes’ situation.

LB, You could run a marathon in my shoes and it would not be the same. Goes both ways, I have no clue what it's like to not be a black man.

Also replying to Eldirty, when you read this, I'm not trying to fight with you but I do feel you're being naive or oblivious and obtuse on this specific issue. And being 'right' is more important than trying to find some common ground. Tell me I'm wrong.

There's nothing wrong with just admitting that's the current state of America that still needs a lot of work. That's where we shifted to a tangent about Will Smith and anyone's opinion black, white, orange, red, pink, whatever that what he did set the black community back.

What's the Big Deal? Will Smith just Blacked out for a minute.

What the?

If you hadn’t capitalized blacked there, it might seem more harmless. But uhhh yeah…this sounds just a weee bit racist there bro.

"Blacked out"....it's a homonym. We know it most commonly as a short period of memory loss, but Will Smith is black and as we all know, black people are savages who cannot control themselves, you know how it goes...want -> steal, horny -> rape, angry -> hit, etc. So, he "black"ed out, meaning, he did a black guy thing, but he didn't black out like he didn't know what was happening. That play on words at the expense of all black people is why it's so hilarious.
