Opinions discussion

You're almost painting hitler as a victim.

Which is an interesting opinion
You sort of can if you are willing to accept in general that Germany was a victim of Imperialistic abuse through the Treaty of Versailles. I suppose at that point you could spin that a mentally ill failed artist and drug addict was inevitably going to become the crazed leader of the tormented nation? Seems like a stretch, but I suppose there is a story there.

Inevitably is what I don't believe, but as you know, humans can disappoint and make horrible decisions and follow horrible leaders to horrible ends.

Here’s an opinion for you.

Whoever popularized the idea that Americans have or deserve unrestricted free speech did more harm than good. There’s nothing to be gained from the opinion of or discourse around Hitler as a victim, or anything that paints Nazis in a positive light. It’s illegal to throw a sieg heil in Germany (but isn’t here). They’ve drawn the free speech line in a diff spot than the US and have it more correct.

I dont know that you could legislate good manners by curtailing free speech....
look what is happening in the UK with their spree on free speech arrests .

Though, it has become disgusting how, thru social media, people have taking liberties too far
by posting the most vile of lies, without any consequence....

Most people don't even know what free speech is. It's freedom from government censorship, not private censorship. A social media platform that bans your account (or Trump's account) is just an example of private censorship, so freedom of speech protections don't apply

I've seen some 'free speech' wins in court that I thought werer pretty f*cked up, like journalists having the right to harass a family who has just had loved ones brutally murdered.

They were pushing the limits of it, and when you do that it will always giver traction to assholes, IMHO.

I think harmful speech laws need to be applied to online speech (and really all speech) more frequently. That one asshole podcaster was convicted for Sandy Hook lies because he harmed the families. Similar needs to occur more often in order to rein in the cesspool that is much of the online experience.

Maybe it won’t matter though. Dead internet theory seems more true every week. Maybe people at large will turn away from the internet and media as a whole because of how inhuman it has and will become. Ehh Maybe not.

Imo "Free Speech" as laid out in the first amendment isn't inherently bad.

Unfortunately the advent of mass media and social media created an opportunity to weaponize our modern methods of communication... RE: Cambridge Analytica.

Much like fire, guns, religion, emotion, etc communication is just a tool, that can serve as a constructive or destructive force.

if you don't burn of your butt hairs aliens can creep up your bung hole, not just my opinion but an actual fact.
