I've gone to the range, surfed, raced against (AFM), done track days, slept with, had dinner, showed my junk to, met in other countries, hugged, and adored people I've met from the BARF, not to mention that I share the same M/C patch with a strong handful of BARFers; so when someone logs onto this site and immediately climbs onto their high-horse and feels they can start "stirring shit with good reason" I get offended.

How many of us do you know? Do you remember guys like Thump, Kevo, Maiden4Eva, or Silly Sod? These are just a few people who have disappeared over the nearly EIGHT years I've been posting here. The thought that we have lost Bad Dad breaks my heart, but if you know Marco you understand. Do you know him? Have you ever met him? He put in his time as a MOD, he has been of service to our community. More than I can say for myself, and way more than I can say for you.

Motorcycles are what brought us together, but the friendships we have forged through this common bond are what keep us together. If you ever hope to get more from being part of our online community I suggest you leave the virtual and take part in the actual.

After that perhaps we'd be more inclined to take you off our ignore list.

Awesome post Beau! To add to it: Beau and I have never met in person, but it's always round about stuff: a guy at my house had just bought his gixxer/hawk and it was damn cool! He told me whose it was and suddenly, BARF made it's way from Santa Cruz to Walnut Creek. It's stuff like that which is really neat.

Human Ills/ Shaun: here's some words that you should digest and work with because truth be told, you are the poster child for why BARF has had much of the animosity (in the sink at least). Here's the direct: you seem unwilling to compromise, find common ground, or even laugh things off that happen online. Now, I'm not saying you need to not take some things to heart/ seriously when it matters to you, but I've been in plenty of threads with you and I just don't see much "give" in your stance and frankly, that leads most people to think such a person is unreasonable and not approachable.

Take this case study: Brett (Climber) and I couldn't be more opposite, however we're friends...made that way on a ride we went on and strengthened since then in a mutual respect for each other. But the thing is, we had to meet in person to actually forage through our political differences. Other people, I haven't met yet in person but already have an online friendship with and would love to hang out/ ride with them. Some people, I don't want to meet, or hang out with...and that's a shame because an online personality is a bit of a stretch of our real personality. We have members who have been suspended not because they're great people in person, but because they're just completely debilitating and virulent online. It's such a weird and hard situation to deal with, especially when it's someone we're all friends with on the outside, in the real world.

Ok, so let me get back to you: go on a ride, take in a social gathering, attend a race...RELAX...what we do here is for fun. Billswim is one of the best of this site. He always has been and getting into it with him tells me you just aren't willing to see his point nor make a friend of him. That's a shame, it's why everyone should be here. I recently found compromise in a thread about some guy warming his engine up and think where I was on one side of the argument and ST on the other, we found common ground.

Because we disagree does not make someone an enemy, it makes them a teacher or a student. Because someone trolls, uses vitriol to make their attack, used BARF for a pedestal to lambaste another does not make them an enemy, it makes them a pathetic fuck. And it makes them someone who publicly is known to others as a pathetic fuck whom won't get the help they could from members of this site. We have a short list of these people (the old school BARFers do) who have existed here. We don't forget them and if you ever run into them and find out who they were/ are on BARF, it's an awesome moment! But these people, these hateful powerless types, they get known online and in reality and they really lose out in the end.

And that's where I'd like to keep you from getting to. You're a smart guy and you have a desire to contribute, just consider the impact of that contribution. Head out to a meet, take up a ride, etc. There's lots to do here and there's lots of people that don't agree with you, but that doesn't mean you won't find friends (And lots of them). Shit, I'm not always the most popular with the mods because of my antics, but they're all my friends none the less. And that's how BARF generally works. Frank I have gone back and forth bitterly in the past, yet I like Frank. He's a cool cat and I'd like to find time to hang with the guy more, yet there's so many BARFers I'd like to get to know better as well. Get out of the sink and spread your wings...that sink can take over your life for the negative I've found.

Like Beau, I miss the old days too of Wicked Whahenie, Mrtnz, Thump, slowpoke, liquid, thesteveco...my arguments with Melissa when I first came on..

I suppose the simple message is: BARF is what you make of it. Some use it to be complete dick shins on this place and others actually contribute, some lurk and others post sparingly. If people can just use BARF for enjoyment and not vitriol, we'd not need mods ever.

Funny, when people discuss an "Adult" section I imagine a grown up and mature place where people interact with respect and polite conversation. Kind of like a library or a university classroom.

Others think acting "Adult" means access to all the porn you want and the ability to curse at each, fling poo and degrade ourselves with impunity. Kind of like if you put a chimpanzee cage in the back of the video store where they keep all the x-rated videos.

Is the latter entertaining? Well sure, for a while, but I believe we've already mentioned BARF XTREME!!!11!! in this thread. How about giving the former a chance?

So is that something we should measure in distance or by the pound?

The cool thing is that I would be able to easily serve people at BARF meets if they are caught posting any porn that my company produces! :laughing

would it be possible to setup a permanent BARF-Extreme forum that is separate from BARF?

if people complain about it too much. take it down and say "yes we tried that, it was a failure. end of discussion. thank you."

I appreciate the effort to reach out. And you're right, you folks have no reason to think I'm anything but a jerk. I mean, I know I'm not but I'm here and you're there. Unfortunately I don't have a lot going on right now, so here I am. All I can say is that I don't post merely to stir the pot or take an opposing view, but that's neither here nor there.

But in the interest of getting along or giving you guys a break from what ever burden you think I'm being, I'll take a couple weeks off of barf.

How many people you know that like to hang out in libraries or classrooms?

The average barfer is not a mature adult, like most people in this country. Adult it just an age they got to, not a mental state they achieved.


I have been on some forums that were "mature". They stayed that way by mercilessly banning people who could not keep up with the maturity level...it's the only way, as the kiddies will be happy to run around hollering and getting sticky fingermarks on everything no matter what you say. They were great forums...but not the fun place that the KS is.

By the way, BARF is not the only forum being impacted by Facebook ;) Facebook provides a more personal setting for those wanting to find out more about another. If two posters didn't like each other on BARF before, I doubt very much they would seek each other out on Facebook. My unscientific guess is that it's far easier to circle-jerk on Facebook than anywhere else.

It is sad to have to suspend grown adults for their own failure to observe a basic set of TOS. But... As some have pointed it out, BARF isn't built by a single person. Without the membership, BARF ceases to exist. That is just a universal truth for all forums. Some high-profilers may have left, does that mean no or fewer new members join or begin posting actively? You don't know for certain. What is certain is that whenever BARF or the KS is being dominated by a few... and being treated by a few as a sounding stage for their personal agendas... People, members, and posters turn off.

Ironically, it is exactly our unwillingness to create ONE MORE rule or ONE MORE term of service that has led us to this point. You can't have it both ways, guys.
 
Look, it shouldn't be "BARF Extreme". I mean if you go and call some guy an asshole, and he's just making a valid point, then there should be consequences. If he IS being an asshole (and we know if someone's deserving of the name calling), then let it stand. I mean there are a fair amount of assholes on this site, but we can't call them as such under the TOS, so then we're just kind of lying to each other. Now, this is only for the KS that I speak of.

Porn: we get a fair amount of complaints on people looking at BARF at work and the porn being an issue. Now, personally if they're at work and the Porn is the issue and the fact that they're not WORKING is NOT the issue, well how many BARFers are there really that have those liberties? But I digress: when we cannot view an image of a bodacious female in the newest rip curl two piece, where has our humanity gone? I find very little more satisfying then the beauty of a golden brown surfer chick in a 95 degree beach setting in her latest skimpy suit! And I've got a healthy respect for God's paint brush...enough to NOT call it porn, but rather divine evolution. So BARF extreme went far beyond that scope...

No racism (directed at each other), No sexism (directed at each other), no R+ rated porn and if you call someone an asshole, you better be damn sure they are being one or it's a 30 day ban if you're wrong...and that would be entirely up to a mod vote/ evaluation. THAT is how I'd like for the sink to be.

But I don't think we'll get there because people just whiskey throttle their freedoms online...
