pics of your FIRST motorbike...

My first bike...... I bought it in 1988 while I was in college from a friend for $537.19 (I have no idea how he arrived at that price). It had been vandalized. Someone pushed it over and beat on it with a hammer.

I didn't really have the money to buy it. I used my food money for the semester to purchase it, and then sold my plasma twice weekly for 4 months to get money so I could eat. I can't believe I was really that stupid.

There was a dent in the tank I couldn't fix, but I slowly fixed the other parts with items off of junked bikes. The tires had serious dry rot, but I rode it anyway.

Then it started to blow oil out of the head. I bought a new head gasket and tried to replace it myself. It still blew oil out of the head. After $250 and a trip to the dealership it was fixed. Then the voltage regulator went out and it wouldn't hold a charge. A new voltage regulator was $120. I charged the battery, took it to a small cycle dealership and sold it. One of the saddest days of my life. I wish I had kept it.

Glad I was born in the 80s, allowing me to have a relatively kickass 1st bike compared to what some of you guys had to put up with. The look of those drum brakes makes me uneasy :laughing

I picked up my first bike beginning of July - '97 Suzuki TL1000S.
Probably not the ideal bike for a newbie but you respect the machine and it'll stay on the road where it belongs ;)

The road rash and dented tank (not pictured and not done by me) got on my nerves after a month so I cleaned it up and this is how it looks now.

I had a Vision 550 for a while. It red lined at 14k and didn't even come alive until 7. I bought it for $250 in 1991 with 3k on the odo, changed the oil and rode the piss out of it.

My first bike (which I still own) was bought new in the gas crunch days by my father. I took this about a year ago.

First bike, got it for $50 and it came with a HJC helmet that lasted longer than the bike. Used to be the guy on the freeway with the tennies, no gloves, shirt riding up my back. I actually passed up a '88 interceptor for this bike, because the VFR needed some work and I didn't know how to do it (probably just rebuilding the carbs, now that I look back on it.). Still kicking myself for that one!

Not mine, mine wasn't this clean. I stole this pic from bikepics.com

This old guy I have owned since around 1982- it would be my first street bike. I "owned" 3 harleys prior to this, on the advice of my 1%er uncle that 'sold" them to me for a dollar while seeing his cousin lay-low here in the AK- he had me transfer them up here from Florida shortly after I completed basic training. But the Z1 was my bike, and I still own it! Gawd I am a packrat!

I also "had" a can-am 550 that I split the purchase with a friend, hid it behind his garage, so my ma wouldn't find out- but I don't count that one! :teeth

Saw my first ride again today! Took pics!

This one's a 1967-1968 with electric start, mine was
a 1965 with kicker only. It was black, the faster color,
and 55cc bigger..

Actually a very sporty bike in 1965~1966.

Hey, I had one of those for a while...I gave it to a friend and he STILL rides it ! (remember the shift pattern ? down for 1st, down for 2nd, down for 3rd, down for 4th, down for neutral !)

This was MY first bike...notice the "upswept" exhaust...yep, that (with full knobbies and a bigger rear sprocket) made this a full-on moto-crosser ! (HA !)

first bike Cl-160

CL-160, dealer tried to sell me one new in 1969
for $600 out the door "good first bike" he said.

It seemed like an immense sum of money to me,
so i passed on it.

They had Triumph Tridents (3 cyl.), BSA Victors on the showfloor
too, can't recall what they wanted for the Victor.

Milne Bros. Pasadena Ca.

Have wanted a Tri.Trdent ever since.

There's a gorgeous '69 running around ContraCostaCo.
but i've never had a camera when I've seen it.

your first machine, with two wheels and a motor. what was it? pics required, if not your pics, well, google images will help...

in college i bought an orange motobecane mobylette moped. 50cc's of slow-moving goodness. i had it for about 2 years before it got stolen, but i loved it. motobecane had made it in 1979? the guy i purchased it from lived in LA and had owned a bike repair shop in a previous life. he kept a few of his pristine mopeds around, and eventually decided to sell this one. i drove up with my isuzu rodeo and put it in the back. the whole truck smelled like gasoline for about a month. :laughing

i used to wear a skate helmet when i rode it, but that didn't last long. i got pulled over by a cop who was nice enough to just give me a warning. after that, i bought a helmet at a thrift store for about 10 bucks. it was a 3/4 old goldwing helmet, XXL. it was black, with two big gold honda wings painted on either side. :laughing

The Motobecane Mobylette!! Lol, that brings back memories! Secretly loved my Mobylette, but was a little embarrassed by it. :laughing I grew up in England, where you were limited to a 50cc motor, and a vehicle with pedals between the ages of 16 & 17. Love the smell of a two stroke engine to this day because of that little tike! Switched to a Honda CB100 the day I turned 17 though! :laughing

No photos of it, but this could have been it!
