Pilot Road 5

WTF. I get 6k miles at best from a set of PR4s.

Me too. Hard fast commutes on shitty roads. I replaced the front last week because the threads were out of whack and handling was 50% of new. Must take a lot of easy cruising and careful attention to tire pressure to double that.

With commuting I usually square of my tires before the tread wears. Couldn't imagine 13,000 miles.

I usually replace tires 2 times a year and run then for a Max of 6k. By then they're usually long into feeling like shit.

dang thats some heavy wear down. When i first bought my sv it had shitty tyres so i replaced both with pr4s and the bike was at 21000 miles. Its now at 34000 with the rear tyre replaced about 10000 miles. commuted about 40 miles round trip 5 days a week and then occasional twisties on weekends. i inflate the tyres 34 front 37 rear and its been pretty good

I've just killed my 3rd rear PR4 on my CB1000R, in 21,000 miles. My second front is just about done too. I ride a solid mix of commuting, twisties and track days. I ride a solid medium-fast B pace on the track.

That averages 7k miles for a rear, and 10.5 k front.

For decades, I averaged 4k rear and 6k front on various 600cc and 1000cc bikes. Typically I squared off the rear and took the shoulders off the front. Still do with the PR4, with one exception where I wore the left side of the rear down to zero tread at the track (I swear i checked the tread beforehand and was confident the tyre would last... )

My commute is just 9 or 10 miles each way, so I don't spend all my current miles bolt upright.

Before I tried the PR4s, I scoffed at the claimed mileage people said they were getting, but now I am a believer. The PR4s do sell at a premium price, and the R5s now do too, but given their high mileage, predictable performance and stellar performance in the wet, I have no problems paying the price.

As always, your mileage may vary, but for me they are a fantastic tyre.

If they are anything like the GP bike tyres, they grip like crazy but let go without any warning...

I only made mine slide and let go once. On the track. Scalding hot day at Thunderhill East. I was ham fisted on the second-last corner, and gave it too much gas. I got a lairy but controllable slide that was approximately pucker factor 11. 100% my own fault.

I just installed a set of Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corso III s on my 950 Supermoto. They were cheaper than the Dunlops I usually stick on there (Q3) . So far , 3 weeks in, no gripes.

Yeah, I want something that'll last. Litertwins aren't exactly kind to back tires.

and these indeed are outrageously expensive everywhere - I'd been hoping it was just Revzilla, but everywhere appears to be at least $230 for a 190/55 ($50 or so more than a PR4)

just under $230 @ Santa Clara Cycle, including mounting (off-bike), for a 190/55

Sounds like the best deal. Gonna do it, or buy something cheaper? If the PR5 comes down a lot when I next need that sort of tire, I'll consider it. Else the currently much cheaper Bridgestone T31 is likely for me.

Great googly moogly price sticker shock!

Michelin PRoad5 numbers showing 120/70/17 fronts $160 and 190/55/17 rears $231.

Sheesh are they that much better than the new Bridgestone T31 that cost $118 front and $170 rear?

I just recently threw a Pilot Road 4 front on and like to keep brands matching :dunno I could go with a Pilot Road 4 rear too (as I currently have) but I was thinking I'd try the new one

Man some of these prices you guys are saying are crazy.....I'll be raising my prices on my tires now, thanks for the input .....

Yup...

And all the (non-GT) PR4's in stock were reduced (today) to clear them out.
They probably won't last long.
