Pilot Road 5

I went to Kernville and back, rode around Marin and Sonoma a little, did a C group track weekend in Feb at Sonoma (so track was not hot). It has maybe 3600 miles on it.

Yikes. What tire pressures are you running? 90%+ of my riding is highway commuting, and I got about 15K from the last two Pilot 4 rear tires (on a ‘09 Multi 1100S). Even then they weren’t completely all the way down to wear bars, but they were definitely squared off

36/38 normally on the street.

Hmm kinda disappointing, tempted to try the PR5's next on the Multi. Then again I don't ride as hard as TWT so perhaps they'll hold up. :laughing

You're at wearbars at 3600? Wow. I'm hoping they last longer than that for me.

She’s down the the cords. On the sides.

Funny, but not really, my brother just bought a set in feb and the sides on his rear are showing like he's Marquez and he doesn't push very hard. He's on a buell xb12s running about 35/35 psi.

I had hoped to grab a set of these but if mileage and wear aren't up to the previous generations, I may try to hunt down some pr4's or old stock pr3's.

I installed a rear a couple months ago, and then proceeded to buy a set during the big eBay sale... here's hoping that they last longer than that for me.

As you once told me in person on a ride when I chimed in about tire wear on the PR3, "you don't ride like I ride" so you may get better mileage.

If you're doing a lot of dirt roads (seems likely given pics) I've found that they really chew through tires, so the mileage makes some sense. Can't say that I recall that conversation though.

What did you get out of 3s and 4s?

The GS hasn't seen much dirt, that is saved for the 6fiddy.

PR3 tire lasted me forever but I was a newer rider at that point.

PR4 rears were lasting me 5-6K on the DL650 but that was really pushing it.

I run 40-42 in the rear (and 36 in the front). I don’t know if just a few psi would make a 4x difference in how long a tire lasts. Maybe you’re just much harder on the throttle? I see you got 5-6K out of a PR4 rear on a DL650, which is even more surprising since that’s a lighter bike with a lot less torque than my Multi, and I get like 2.5x more miles out of the PR4.

If you ride hard the Angel GT is a better tire IMHO, supposedly A-Spec lasts longer. Downside is its an ungodly nail magnet, so odds are high you'll never wear one out.

Two sets of PR4's lasted about 6400 miles.....touring only. I'm not a fan of the tire....not much grip IMHO. With almost 80,000 miles on my '12 Ducati MTS, I've run: Dunlop RSII & III's, PR3's, PR4's, TF30R's and Angel's & the best 'overall' tire are the Angel's. Angel's last about 4000 miles. And yes, my riding 'style' may differ then yours.

Oh!!! I'll have to give them a try.

:laughing is there such a thing as a nail magnet? Well my brand new Angel GT rear got punctured by a piece of wood splinter and I plugged it. I didn't think moto tires could be punctured by riding over downed tree branches until then.

Fair enough, even though I've gone to the dark side... (Boxer)

I don't see the connection, for me anyway. I guess for people who replace a tire when it gets punctured. The one I can't wrap my mind around is people who want to replace both tires when one gets punctured.

A-spec is the heavy weight (HWM) version? In the past I've used the regular version of the Angel GT on a few bikes, but never the A-spec. Based on my previous experience with HWM tires, I wouldn't use one except on a heavyweight motorcycle.

I bought my R1200R with a HWM BT023GT on the back. I'd had the regular version in the past, and it was OK. The HWM one was terrible--as if it never got up to temperature on cold, wet days.

Huge thumbs up from me on the Angels too.

But I haven't ridden on a Michelin in like, 6 years, so why am I even commenting in here? Do the Michelins still have steep tire profiles? I never liked how aggressively those tires dropped the bike on turn in. Always enjoyed the more balanced Dunlops/Pirellis
