I say kudos to CARB... mostly what they're doing here is protecting squids from their own stupidity. It's not 2001 any more, very few current bikes are going to benefit from airbox mods, slip-ons or any of that shit.

Kooks buy a well tuned modern sport bike and immediately want to waste money on some cheap slip on that makes their bike run like shit, maybe picks up 2 hp at redline and kills the mid range.

The best part is they all think their bike makes more power because it got louder. :rofl

Up to a point. How many times have you met someone who's demeanor towards you changed negatively when they found out you rode a motorcycle? There are a lot of people out there that don't like motorcycles one bit. A quiet bike or a not so quiet bike, makes no difference to them. Remember, we are the minority, I assume more people don't like us, for our form of transport, than do like us.

I wouldn't doubt if they try to legislate us out of existence altogether, at some point down the road.

And look at the Harley Crowd. More straight pipes than mufflers going on there, and I believe that is the strongest selling genre out there at the moment. I live a block for Santa Maria H-D Triumph Kawasaki. More straight pipe Harleys than not. On warm, sunny weekend, the only time many of them ride, it's constant noise. It doesn't really bother me, my old Ducati is pretty loud too, I'm used to it. That isn't going to change, and those are the guys buying bikes, middle age, cruiser types, and loud pipes go along with the image.

I also believe they would and will try at some point.

Was checking out the vendors at Reno / Sparks last weekend. You can get all sorts of after market pipes for the H.D......... no problem. They didn't seem to care if you are from Cali.

Don't think that is CARBs' intent but you have a point. The exhaust on the 10r is stock and see no reason to change it.

On a related note, I had a dealer tell me that they could not install DOT race tires on my bike. :wtf

Sensing oxygen. :toothless

^^^ hardy har har ..... I think mebbe the point was:

can you use the O2 input with the stock electronics, or was the stocker replaced with a Bazzaz or whatever...

yep, that

Who are these dipshits taking their bikes to
Shops to get an exhaust installed? Do it yourself :D

What you don't know about bikes is a lot. :nchantr

Squids? It's about clean air for everyone that likes to breathe.

For the squids that want a loud pipe, the future is already here: :rofl

And CARB, like the EPA, has no legal right to exist. Check the constitution.

I did. You, apparently, did not...

Article 1 said:
The Congress shall have power To lay and collect Taxes, [blah blah] and provide for the [blah blah] and general Welfare of the United States

The establishment of the EPA has been determined by precedent to be legal under this particular clause. I happen to agree.

It is a NECESSARY agency, even if, like CARB, it is run by a pack of rabid chimpanzees.

I agree to the Max...My 05 ZX-10 is wearing the stock intake and exhaust for that very reason...The stock stuff breaths free as the street will feel, and that insane power doen't come from a corked up system, and the stock also doesn't take on problems in the throttle response or reliability of the ECU.

And, some (maybe more often than not) some of the passes I make on vehicles, is a hard pass, done in a limited sightline, with a "get-R-done" requirement...I'm glad my bike doesn't make any more of a shocking noise, than it does, at those times. :thumbup

they aren't rabid, the CDC is just testing bio warfare candidates on them

I used to work the door a bar that played movies with subtitles on. They only way I could see the move was to watch it in the mirror over the bar. I spent many an hour reading subtitles backwards - I evidently have a worthless talent now :laughing

Question for Alanrider7-

How are custom bike builders like West Coast Choppers supposed to comply with the law if they manufacture their own exhausts? Just curious.

To the OP, if you decide on an M4 pipe (if they even have one for your bike) and they won't ship it to you, I'll pick it up for you since they are local to me. Then you can just Paypal me the shipping cost for whatever method you want.
