Please keep speed down on Skyline Blvd, Oakland...

Geez!

"Can't we all just get along?"
I've even heard a neighbor suggest pouring oil and sand on some of the curves.
They do that here in Arizona and I thought it was insane when I first heard that. I thought, "Wow, I'm glad no one in California does that!" And now this! Just past all of those neighborhoods on Skyline into Pinehurst there is plenty of open road. If not there, then head down to Mines or up toward Moraga or Antioch, but leave the kids and dogs out of this. I used to ride Mines a lot and one thing I was very respectful of was those two sections between Tesla and the Junction where there were small stretches of homes. It's only fair to go slow in there, it isn't too much to ask. Then again, there's always track days, right Lance? Gary? Noid? "Nuff said". Enjoy my new Avatar. As a matter of fact I DO know her! :sex :boobies :banana :thumbup

Look, Ive learned from my own experiences living on foothill blvd in oakland. You cant stop speeding and you definately cant keep folks off the road (unless you have a private road)...so the only option is to MOVE. However, you cant be the brightest person putting a post like this on a sportbike forum...perhaps you should be in the squids forum based on that alone. Furthermore you probably made the whole thing about the oil and sand on the street tactic up just to get a response from folks. You seem to exercise poor judgement so I can see why you would be the one whose dog gets outta tha house or gate and runs into the street to get hit. I see why you are concerned about that.
:mad

These people have hundereds of thousands of dollars invested in these homes. They have spent years there, raised families there, watched their kids grow up there. You have roughly ten thousand invested in your bike, and it goes wherever you want it to. Why don't you move?

Frankly, Skyline is a piece of shit road. bumpy, cracked, off camber turns with no shoulder, kids, bikes, shitheads driving SUV's. You couldn't pay me to wick it up on that road.

Dave, I apologize for flaming...honestly, I myself have plenty of money invested in my own homes and sincerely understand the issue. Hell, Id like to just get rid of the damn scooters on the street! I was sincerely pissed though because of the sand/ oil in the road thing. You see, people that live in better parts of town have it much easier than most in the bay area period, so I was thinking that to post a threatening message that a "friend" said just sounded ridiculous to me. I myself wish my block was quieter with less traffic and murders!. Sometimes, I just get damned pissed when folks dont realize how good they actually have it! I do not speed on skyline, in fact dont even ride that road much.
and yes, I am enjoying the points :laughing

word.

I've been riding Skyline & the surrounding roads for 30+ years. I always upshift & try to use a higher gear (quieting the pipe) when in the homes area; & might wick it up a bit more on Redwood/Pinehurst, etc. We mostly try to respect the residents; but blaiming ALL riders for the transgressions of a miniorty few I don't think is right...

HOWEVER, threatening us w/oil/sand/etc. is just plain wrong. If you don't like the conditions of your neighborhood, move. I live next to an airport, I knew there would be planes flying over/noise when I moved in. Asking them to quit flying out of this airport would seem a bit silly....eh? Same thing...

Don't like the conditions there? Sell your rich-ass million dollar home & move to a quiet sidestreet. Most of us try to restrain ourselves near the homes, only a few blow it all the time. Please consider that when calling the OPD for the transgressions of a few. Heck the speed limit was recently lowered from 30 to 25, & I think that's enough already....

You're right. I guess people just want the place they live (and have invested in) to be safer and better, no matter where it is. But speeding traffic is obviously nothing compared with crime/murder--very good points. Humble pie is on the dessert menu...

BTW, that was a neighbor who made that comment (sand/oil), not necessarily a close "friend." I don't think they were serious, but that they made the suggestion at all was a clue they are not happy campers (or thinking straight for that matter). I have a vested interest in it not getting to that point, nor do I want to see people getting hurt, hence the post. Thx.

Jeez, read the posts more carefully, how 'bout it?! No one is blaming ALL riders. I've said more than once, it's cars too. And I didn't threaten you, instead I warned you about what someone else suggested and how people feel so that maybe someone will slow their ass down and this won't happen. And no, I'm not moving. If I don't like the conditions where I live then I'll work to make them better. And sorry, planes flying in airspace is not the same as people breaking the law. Finally, if you want to pay $1 million for my home then damn, write me a check today and it's yours.

East B Dave and all the others that have spoken out on this attack of Skyline riders. I want to chime in here. I actually ride Skyline as well, I rode it yesterday in fact. Saturday mid afternoon, there were several bikes out taking advantage of the day. Everyone that I passed or passed me was doing around 35mph. I am in total agreement about how rude the residents are on Skyline, I can't begin to count the numbers of times I have had cars,SUV's not pull over for groups out riding on Skyline.
Not to mentioned the loose dogs that are always running around on Skyline. As, for the deer comment. Last time I checked deer have been running in the Oakland Hills alot longer than any of us have been living or riding there. DaveT I think you may have had the intention of trying to address this issue in a civil way, but you have only added fuel to a hot fire. Expressing your neighbors dislike for speeding bikes and his comments of endangering riders is only asking for riders to be more hostile in their riding on Skyline. Not everyone speeds through Skyline, to come to this forum and address the issue with some of the comments I felt was an attack. The NIMBY tone you and your neighbors have(even if you are a rider) is wrong. Use the correct channels for your concerns, or better yet invite some of the riders that have posted here to meet with you and your neighbors to discuss the issue.

Hehe...calm down man...perhaps I worded my reply a bit strongly reading between the lines. T'was not my intention; I simply wanted to point out WE try to restrain ourselves when around the houses.

A group of us were up there Sat. afternoon (ZRX riders...a bunch of green "standard" bikes if you saw us...), & we only rode Skyline between The Wall & Pinehurst/Moraga Canyon where we exited Skyline. We rode quite conservativly there & saved our corner carving for those other roads. Going through the houses we were quite mellow....as usual...

I hope you can let your neighbors know it's not everyone that's flying up there. We just cruised & enjoyed the view, THEN headed to the canyon backroads for carving... :teeth

For all you pea-ons with $10 grand bikes. Quiet down someone raised(ing) a family.
Jeeze this is getting as bad as the Dog park.

Oh yeah, which one?

that's why I stopped riding up there. I had one homeonwner
tell me that the noise destroys the peacefulness of the
area plus it's dangerous.

DaveT, your request for being more considrate while driving or riding through residential neighbourhoods is both valid and understandable. Your neighbor's thinking obviously is neither.

There are some replies with "motorcycling roads" or "can't afford track days" excuses. I am amazed on how many people mistake public roads with a free race track. Just because you don't have the funds to go on track days (I don't either), it doesn't give you the right to ride a public road like one. And no, there are no motorcycling roads. These are public roads, the same "public" word that gives you and I the right to ride on these roads gives others (residents) the right to demand safety .

I personally couldn't agree more. Very well said.

I dont know about you guys, but that sounds like attempted murder in my book.

In the CA lawbooks it isn't. If they die it's murder, if they don't die it was just a prank unless it can be proven that you were trying to kill them. F'ed up isn't it.

Agree to that.

There's a time and a place to do it, and Skyline isn't the time or the place.

I can't understand these idiots 'well, you should just move, it's a BIKING road'.

YOU pay their property taxes do you? I think that means that they do in fact, own that piece of road. And unless you live there, you don't.

It's a PUBLIC place. If you come whipping round the corner at 40mph, which is PLENTY too fast for that road - and T Bone somebody, you'll likely off yourself and if you live, you'll be in liability hell for the rest of your life for killing/injuring whoever you hit.

Wanna go fast? Pick somewhere off in BFE where nobody cares.

Just got to ask, how would you react if someone came speeding through YOUR neighborhood and killed your girlfriend/mother/brother? And they turn around and say 'fuck you man, this is a BIKING road, you should move'.

PURlease!:hand
