Porsche Panamera S ?

Panamera in the flesh up close is a great looking car. Even the ugly headlights ain't all that ugly.
This thread prompted me to pull in at the Porsche dealer I was driving past on Sun. There was a couple of low mileage used Panamera's there. Sweet cars fosho.

Yes, I agree. They don't show well in pics, but when you see one up close and personal - they are very nice.

I just ordered a car today (not panamera) but it is still turbocharged and supercharged (together!)

retractable spoiler= ticket

Cops know if the spoiler is up you're going over 70mph.

Well not really. The spoilers go up at a higher speed than they retract, so you can exit the freeway, slow down, and still have the spoiler up. And then there's the manual button inside the car too. It can be raised at anytime.

Funny. I feel the opposite.

I'm sure they do. It could provide less lift, better fuel economy (think corporate average), or both.

Not fuel economy. Definitely not that.

Of course the spoiler going up provides more downforce. But it's actuation isn't instant. So it just goes up and stays up at speed even if you're going straight and provides constant downforce just in case it'll actually be helpful should you suddenly turn (like an emergency lane change maneuver). If you started the maneuver with it down, the back end would already be coming around on you before the wing could come up and help.

But downforce = drag. And drag kills fuel economy and efficiency. This is why your C6 Z06 is faster flat out and gets better mileage that the C7 Z06/Z07.

A spoiler and a "wing" are not the same in terms of performance. A Wing is made to generate downforce (ala nascar/ F1) and a spoiler is purpose built to smooth airflow over the vehicle. A rear spoiler pulls air off the rear of a vehicle, decreasing the pressure on the nose of the vehicle, thereby increasing efficiency and top speed. Dirty air off the rear of a vehicle is pulled off slower than clean air which creates nose pressure.

A Wing is intended to keep a vehicles wheels on the ground with aero force. Fairly large differences in operation. A wing is very inefficient, but gives increased force/ grip.

Nascar FTW.

The rear wings on Porsches add downforce for high speed stability/grip. Their deployment heights and angles vary based on the specific suspension and front fascia/spoilers on a given car. They absolutely do work.

And cops don't know anything based on being them up, because they're manually deployable and if one ever gets pulled over, all you have to say is you manually deployed it. Some aholes drive around with them deployed all the time.

A Porsche tech on Jay Leno's Garage claimed the GT2 exhaust is cleaner than the air going into the engine. Says its scrubbed that good.
Sounds like a claim VW would make.

Haha! My uncle had an ss clone with a 396, it was pretty dope. His favorite was the unexpected throttle and the subsequent sound of my head hitting the back window. :nchantr

Yep, mine is a clone as well, but ls6, suspension and c5 disc brakes all around.

Don't forget the 'potato paint chips' I used to eat.
