We first became aware of him many years ago when my wife was learning piano. She was studying with a lady who was a friend of Jon's and who would fly all over the US to hear him play. During that time, we would hear him whenever he was playing in the Bay Area and tonight he was just a few miles down the road.Interesting (and local) guy. Career arc worth a bio read. He won the Van Cliburn and unlike Richard Dreyfus, Nakamatsu was teaching high school when he competed.
Enjoy Andy.
When my wife's piano teacher passed, Jon played at her memorial. At tonight's venue, they have a 9' Steinway that he selected for the theater at a dealer in Los Angeles. It's apparently one of the nicest pianos in the Bay Area. The performance was amazing. Lot's of players can perform the same material, but few have his touch.
