We're a small company so I'd like to think he believed me when I told him the two owners and I had a conversation about hiring him. He was offered 35/hr in the city (not sure what the job actually is) which seems like it's closer to 29 when you add in 3-4 hours of commuting that he simply did not have here (7 miles from his house).

Would've appreciated a chance to counter-offer for sure, but again the disrespect of not telling me is weak.

Life goes on.
 
It's hard to expect loyalty and respect from workers when companies have none. This is not a reflection on you or your company Kevin. I know you well enough to know this isn't the case with you. But as a rule there is no loyalty to employees whatsoever.
 
I'd rather work for a small company these days as it's more likely you'll be treated wit integrity, big corps are just looking at the bottom line the majority of the time.

I've had this intense feeling of being on edge lately. I think it's the time change and lack of sunlight/seasonal affective disorder shit. But damn, I just feel like I am about to snap at any 🎯 even moment. And by snap, I mean drive my car somewhere and camp for a few days. Maybe I should. Ugh.

I have also been anxious and grumpy about stuff. Sorry. It sucks, doesn't it?
 
got to watch the last MotoGP race of the season last night. It wasn't showing in the komkast guide but I turned to the station just as the warm up lap started, I was headed out but hit record and got to watch it later. Guess I need to drop Komkast and just subscribe to motoracing.

Every holiday imaginable off. Extremely acceptable rate of pay. No drug test (although I will say I tested some weed he had a couple weeks ago. Decent but not exemplary). Free money for selling the empty crates after we pull all the parts out...literally handed him a crisp hundred dollar bill last week when I sold a few dozen empties. He did nothing at all for it other than working here.

On one hand I hope he does well. He was a decent worker.
On the other hand I hope he works standard daytime hours and has to suffer through a commute. :twofinger :laughing

Tempted to refer you my kid to help him learn some shit in the workforce.

But also mostly cause you can fire his ass and tell him he's a lazy 20 something that needs to put his fuckin phone down.

This sounds familiar to me. When I was younger, my friend got me a job at a company like that. We made parts for boats. We made these things that stopped wake from the propeller for better fishing when trolling and these heating elements in a metal box for sailboats to keep humidity down. It was an awesome job for a great company. My buddy was able to just put his head down and focus.

After a few months it drove me crazy. I needed more variety. OCD ADHD all of that. Not for nothin and looking back that job sounds delightful compared to the shitshow I deal with now. But at the time, I could only listen to Robert Cray belt out that song about his neighbor one more time. I ended up just leaving at lunch to go see Van Halen, Metallica, and the Scorpions at Monsters of Rock.

I think my next job was selling knock-off perfume door-to-door, but that concert was rad.
 
Doing silly repetitive stuff isn't as bad when its all on you to create quotas, but when you have someone yelling at you for packing 1200 kits instead of the required 1275, that boss and job can go fk themselves.
