Power issue // monster 620

I am not sure it is in this thread, but compression test was one of the first things done. Numbers were perfect.

This post has gotten quite long, I can't recall all diagnostics that were done to the Ducati.

However, all motors need the correct fuel/air mixture, presented into the combustion chamber at the correct time and in the correct amount, with application of a strong spark at the correct time, and sufficient compression.

OP, have you looked at the spark under dim lighting, to ensure it is fat and blue on both cylinders? Have you removed the spark plug and put your nose to the open hole to sniff out a strong odor of gasoline? Can you remove the injectors and watch them spray while turning over the engine? Have you take a reading of cylinder compression? A very cheap compression tester, the kind you would simply hold into the spark plug hole is very inexpensive and good enough for your usage. In the Old Days we'd ensure proper spark timing using a timing light, however I believe with modern ignitions, either they work or they do not.

I've never owned an EFI motorcycle, have no plans to, so I don't know how you'd ensure the spray was happening at the correct time.

But especially, I don't recall you doing a compression test ...

Here was my experience when test riding the bike. When revving it past 3.5K the is a massive lack of power. It fells like 1/2 the hp is taken away. I only rode in 1st, 2nd and a very short 3rd gear. There was no change when replacing the coils,wires and caps from my bike (they are Ca Cycleworks coils and NGK wires and caps). I put my Ca Cycleworks TPS on and still no change.

We tested his coils and wires and they test ok. Very close to what mine tested at.

I had brought another fuel line so we could swap them just in case there was buildup in Dark_620's. I didn't know that his fuel pressure regulator is on the throttle bodies. Mine is on the inside of the tank. Different hose configurations put that effort to bed.

The OP is going to get rid of the evap canister hose leftover between the intakes and plug them with 5mm screws and make sure the vent hose from the canister/tank is disconnected and left on the tank. I told him at this point take the canister off. The previous owner did a f***ing 1/2 ass job on this.

I thought about the gas tank/cap venting too. We opened the cap while running the bike, no change. I would think it's unclogged as it's a replacement tank from Desmoto and they installed it. :dunno

Augustiron, no igniter on this bike.

We may give it another shot again on Sat. depending on what happens with the removal of the hoses and plugging the intake holes.

I have a spare injector that I'll bring if we do.

Another thought I had was that the fuel pressure regulator could be clogged up. It looks pretty easy to take apart. From the parts manual there is an exploded view of it the shows a circlip that holds the top on.

If we did take it apart to clean do you guys have suggestion on what we can clean it with other then wiping it out extremely well?

I've also got some software on an older laptop that should be able to read his ECU for codes. I just don't know if the battery will hold a charge, I always have it plugged in when I use it.

I'm waiting to hear from the OP on this stuff. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon so he can enjoy some riding time.

Yeah, I'm also wondering why they didn't do it the second time I had to bring them the bike... It should be done already.

TRUE ! That's also pissing me off actually, because it's getting harder and harder for you guys to know what has been already replaced or not.

1 : spark plugs + caps + wires : NEW
2 : coils OK
3 : compression test OK
4 : clutch plates NEW (Oil and filter change in the same time -Castrol 10W40 for motorcycle + K&N filter)
5 : air filter NEW
6 : battery NEW
7 : TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) OK

Tank found clogged because some inside coating was peeling off into the gas so, done by Desmoto :
4 : tank and fuel pump REPLACED (used but clean and good working parts)
5 : fuel filter NEW
6 : injectors CLEANED

1 // POWER ISSUE : low torque and max speed of 70mph
2 // Vertical cylinder's SPAR PLUG WHITE. running lean obviously. the other one is OK

Hey guys !

I got my bike back from Desmoto last week (3rd time), and wanted to ride a little bit before posting here again.

MY BIKE RUNS PERFECT NOW !!
I did 300miles this weekend and it works great !

Problem :
-injectors were clogged

What they did this time :
- sent the injectors to a specialist for a REAL cleaning
- I insisted on them to replace every hoses of the fuel line for new ones (what they didn't do the previous time they quick-cleaned the injectors by themselves, reason why they got clogged 5 miles after I had the bike back).

They were cool and didn't charge me for this.

All that mess was just caused by a stupid coating inside of the gas tank falling down into the gas.

When I'll have more time, I'll do a sum-up about all I did on this bike though.

Kinda no surprise the gas tank coating fiasco would cause a cascade of downstream fuel system issues.

Good on Desmoto finally sussing it out.

No they didn't do the coating, they did a cleaning. And I think that this cleaning actually killed the coating :/
I was charged $500 total for replacing :
- tank (used part)
- fuel pump (used part)
- fuel filter
- hoses
- and cleaning injectors

Hell yeah ! I did Highway 1 all the way down to Monterey last weekend ! That was really good ! That 620 is so fun, I can't wait to try some bigger Monsters !

Next time keep going south. Monterey is right where Highway 1 starts to get good. Turn around when you get to Cambria, which is where it becomes not so good once again.
