Ah... so much good advice... I have a feeling I will be getting both or a combo... once I get some time at home, I'll like up my top favorites and my critiques on the combo grill... :)

Agree with everyone else. Jsut a suggestion though. Put some hickory or mesquite chips on the gas grill, and see the flavor improve dramatically!!

I call bull shit, I can cook on a gas grill and you guys wouldn't even know it. (I make wood chip packs too)

We bbq about 4 days out of the week, my Coleman kicks ass, i recommend getting one with a burner on the side that way you can cook & steam sea food out side and not smell up the house.

Charcoal taste is great, but I voted propane.

I'd rather be able to(more easily) cook EVERY DAY on a propane than have to labor over starting/maintaining/cleaning up after a charcoal grill.

And yes, I like to BBQ often during the summer.

Ahh... weasel... that's a darn good reason to get that side burner. All this time I've been lookin at those grills w/ that thing on there, wondering, geez... why would I want to lose one of my side tables just so that I can heat up my hot cocoa outside? :confused

Now I see the light. I love seafood, and I would like to not infest my home with it! Now, I need to find a combo grill w/ side burner rated to hold 15# (1 gallon of water = 8#, two whole lobsters weighing in at 3#, plus the pot 1# = 15#!!). :teeth

I guess I'll drop the dough! If anyone finds a good combo grill, share the knowledge, mmkay? :thumbup

Usually Costco has pretty sweet gas grills for a good price.

If you could pull this off, I would be amazed... Propane grills, are like street driven monster trucks, for people who need to show off (Kind of the all show, no go type deals) :twofinger, the charcoal Webers are for one thing, only.... great food. :thumbup

It really comes down to what your used to... if you are used to the propane taste, a charcoal grill would taste funny, and vice versa...

Propane is better for the environment, too...

Have to agree with you there!! If BBQ'ing is a frequent event, then propane is more practical. But like anything...to each their own!

The secret is keeping the grill dirty,
not the cooking surface but underneath.

mine smokes like crazy while i'm warming it up, it actually needs to be cleaned at this point but I only do a full cleaning every 3 months or so.

I do use chacole in my smoker though :bbq

be careful!!!!

Mine was "dirty" underneath the grill and caught fire while warming up!

melted the whole damn lid down on the grill...

:barf

i've had both, but i have to say the convenience of propane far outweighs any flavoring that charcoal might add. if you have propane, you'll use it way more often. i've diven home from work and made cheese burgers on my lunch hour. try that with charcoal! oh, don't forget the extra polution that charcoal contributes to out air (no smoke from propane to blow in your eyes and into your house).

where's the white gas option. dang, no campers here? :toothless

jjkg :)

go dual fuel if you can. otherwise I'd stick to gas for the ease of use. we only drag out the coals when it's family picnic time at the parks and those huge grills. that's tough to cook on with everyone doing different stuff, and wants different grill heights, my cousin the pyro just playing with the starting fluid, etc. LOL

I use propane unless I'm cooking for a very large group of people, then I'll use one of the huge charcoal grills in the apartment community. I use my grill pretty regularly, about 3-4 times a week. Like VTRweasel, I only give the grill a real good cleaning every couple months. I do however, scrub and oil (with olive oil) the grates before I use the grill each time. I've gotten it down that I go from lighting the grill to eating in about 10 minutes for steaks and only a few minutes longer for chicken or fish. It's gotten to the point that I hardly ever use our stove or oven. Then again, I do all of the cooking so I get to choose what I cook with.

hey BARFers and BARFettes, please check out my original post, I decided which grill to get and would like some more of your wonderful input. ;) :thumbup

Now who can tell me where to buy a tank for this grill? I like this blue rhino thing, it has a gauge on it that shows the gas level (I think). And do I have to exchange the tank or is there a place that'll fill mine? I don't wanna exchange... its like getting water delivery from Alhambra... or like... exchanging underwear!! :green :laughing
You take your empty tank down to Ace Hardware (or wherever they do the exchanges), they take your empty tank and give you a full one, then they fill your tank and give it to someone else.

edit: Kingsford Mesquite > *.charcoal

If you're really good at grilling, you can make propane-cooked meat taste just like it was made on charcoal, but with the added benefit of flame control that you get with propane. I think most people are mediocre at best and just settle with charcoal because it requires little skill.
