Tank exchange sucks if you have a cool tank; you'll usually get a shitty one in exchange. Some gas stations will fill your propane tank right on the spot, I know some 76 stations do it around San Jose.

I'll have to say charcoal. While propane is quicker, I actually have more control with the charcoal grill, and I like the flavor.

If I went gas, I would make a small wood chip tray or something so I could get more flavor.

Have fun!

Cacowgirl-
Costco has new tanks for $19. That is the best price ANYWHERE!!
I know, I had been looking for a 'spare' tank for quite a while.
I would never buy the 'combo' grills. The problem with propnae grills is you have to clean them about once/year, otherwise your vents will get clogged up with crap, and you'll have a smaller/ weaker flame. I cannot imagine keeping those clean if you cook with Charcoal on the same grill???
I too, must agree with the folks who say that you can add wood chips to make your propane cooked food, taste more 'grilled'.
You can buy a little metal box from OSH that you add the wood
chips to. This adds flavor.

Thanks webber style, and that's why I want to buy a new one and refill it, keeping it.

And thanks again lefty, I appreciate you sharing your best buy results. Another one I'm considering is this one that has a 'one hour reserve' valve (at target for $30, or $40). I wonder though how they can say its a one hour reserve... when grills run a variance of BTUs.

You know, until I began searching for a grill and patio furniture, I used to love shopping. Now I don't think I do.
