Purchased my first bottle of Scotch! (extreme whisky thread)

I'd rather pay $100 for 18 year old Glenmorange...or two bottles!

Ya, you would be better off.

I really wanna start doing blind tastings and record my thoughts and preferences without being influenced with the brand or image of what I'm drinking. Would anyone be interested in my sharing of results or assisting in this endeavor?

I have to assume there's a reason people shell out for Johnny Walker Blue other than the "prestige"?

I've never tried it. I think Red tastes TERRIBLE and Black barely drinkable.

I haven't a Johnny Walker that I've tasted and though, "Yeah, I'd buy that." That goes for any color. None of them have been undrinkable to me, but I certainly don't get the hype. Especially for Blue.

Yep. I'm a Speyside fan, myself. Although there are some Highlands that I find enjoyable as well.

I just don't like Islay. I wish I did. I used to say that about whiskey in general though, and now I like most types of whiskey.

I tasted some 12-year-old Redbreast Irish whiskey at my buddy's, not impressed.

And I don't do well with Islay either. Mostly because I'm not a fan of peated whisky and Islay is known for that. One exception is Lagavulin...I can do their 16 every once and a while.

Got a couple bottles of Horse Soldier from the inlaws. Just did a little reading about it and had a cool story to it. One bottle signed by one of the first Green Beret's deployed to Afghanistan on horseback. That bottle is a keeper and a second bottle for drinking. I've been really digging the local Sonoma whiskey as well as the whistle pig bottles I've had this year. Hope this is good stuff as well.
