Quick question how dicey is Oakland

There was a butcher shop in hayward that made hawaiian sausage with pork and pineapple. There was nothing greater that touched my grill. Unfortunately they burned down.

This thread made me think of Bateman's meats in Petaluma.
In fact, it inspired me to drive by the place....hadn't been by there in years.
Closed, vacant, boarded up.
Another one bites the dust.

That neighborhood looks pretty similar to the one I grew up in. Funny how perspectives change when you get older.

^^^^
Because hopefully you have nicer shit to lose.

Well you have a lot of over heads to running a butcher shop..rent which is probably the killer for most of them, staff buying counters and all he stuff that goes along with a shop wages no one wants to work for
Less that $17hr even meat clerks lol sign of the times..

You leave sf for a job they want to pay you less money

You talking about Bobby Lee’s Country Smokehouse on the corner of Mission and Sycamore?
They made the best Hot Links I’ve ever had. Haven’t had a decent one since.

I'm pretty sure Seakor Polish Deli does at 24th and Geary. Bomb sausages there.

Rule of thumb in Oakland:

35th Ave great.
45th Ave ok.
etc.
anything past 73rd Ave, don't be out at night and watch your moves in the day.

I worked in the outer avenues in Oakland during the Rodney King riots, but I was packing. Everyone was cool. During the daytime, you're usually cool. At night, you're a target.

Taylor's in Oakland is pretty legit for snausages.

Can we get a sausage thread going, or should we just change the title of this one? :laughing

PS loving all the suggestions.

Check out Thistle Meats in Petaluma on the blvd just south of E. Wash. or my favorite, Sonoma Meat Co. in Santa Rosa.

If we say it's not safe, would you not take the job?
If we say it's safe and you get stabbed, will you blame us?

I find it hilarious when people ask "how safe" an Area is.

what's wrong with just getting an opinion?

It's stupid to ask locals their feelings on matters they're intimately knowledgeable aboot.

Nothing wrong with it but I find people asking on say yelp, "So is San Francisco safe?"

That's not a yes or not absolute question. I had a friend stabbed to death, so no? Yet I have not been stabbed to death, so yes?

I'm curious what kind of response they're looking for.
