Wife rode both. She felt they were similar but she liked how the R-3 fit her better....now R-3 in garage as her track bike.
Sorry, thats all I got. :)

I've ridden both R3 and Ninja 300/400 on track. I really prefer how the Ninja 300 / 400 feels and how it fits me (6'1" 180lb, for reference). The R3 felt way more aggressive, like i was perched on it, and I never really got comfortable. The Ninjas immediately made me feel at home and confident on them.

The Ninja 400 obvs has a ton more power than the 300s, not sure what you'd have to do to an R3 to get it into the same neighborhood... at that point, why not just get the bike with the bigger engine?

I absolutely love my Ninja 400. I’ve just today reached the 600 mile mark and started to wick it up a bit. I am amazed at how much power this little 400 makes and how well it handles. It’s so lightweight and flickable through the turns!

I recently sold my modded (big bore, fcr, cams, full exhaust) DRZ440 and this little Ninja feels just as fast off the line and way faster through the gears and top end. I’ve also ridden a first gen Ninja 250, but there’s absolutely no comparison with that one...

I’ve seen a few vids on YouTube comparing the R3 and N400 and the 400 usually comes out the winner every time...

It has some cool features which I love; the gear position indicator, led lights, mpg indicator...I’ve owned many Yammies and Kawis over the years and have usually been partial to Yamaha. But in this instance, I say Ninja 400 all the way!...it’s so fun...

both my r3's make around same hp as a stock n400-just considering if n400 is worth buying.handling, torque, brakes etc.

J-Boat, hardly a surprise that a bike outperforms something with 5/8ths the displacement from 31 or 32 years earlier. I'm surprised you found a first gen 250, you don't see a whole lot of them.

I hope they make a Versys 400 sometime.

Speaking of the R3...it finally has USD forks. Just like my now 23 year old RVF400 does. :rofl

still doesn't get radial mount brakes though, for reasons that I don't understand.

+1-new triples,bodywork-radial brakes make a big difference,my RC390 actually stopped.

cuz 99.9999% of R3 riders won't pull the brake lever hard enough to realize the benefits of a radial caliper. even for race use, if u pull the lever that hard, u probably over-slowed for the corner.

Okay, J, where’d the first photo you posted with the “handsome” Hindle exhaust go?

And is it a full system or just the can?

Good eye there Bob. I decided the Hindle is a bit too loud for my taste (even with the sound insert)...

It’s now on CL...:laughing
