Another old guy living in the past...

Great thread to cruise through and see some older history as well as recent stuff....Have to admit like most have already said on here...the memory get's a bit fuzzy on all the details...

For me I started in 1985 in 600 S/S & F-1 with #424 and won the F-1 race in the AMA Pro-Am race....then went on to win the 1986 AFM 600 S/S North title...ran FZ600's, Ninja 600's, GSXR 750's, ZX7's and a few more I might remember later. Last race was #99 in the 1991 Laguna Seca AMA National running 750 Supersport on a Kawasaki ZX7. Ran the WERA 24hrs West about 5 yrs winning two classes in the late 80's......I remember being pitted next to that ole Kanatuna Budman in 1989! I think we won 750 heavyweight after I broke my collarbone in turn one in the 23rd hour!

There's my $ .02 worth.....Hope to keep hearing from some of the old racers..and old friends.

Cool Jon! Welcome.

Old skool :cool

Hello former and current AFM-ers

Greetings friends.

I raced w. AFM (as well as a sub on a couple of Italian endurance teams) from 1998 through 2006. Retired after breaking my femur in a freak accident: oil spill over the top of turn 3A at BW, never my fave track. Miss the camaraderie and weekend fun (but not all the wrenching and prep time, to be honest).

I'm now on the East Coast with the much reduced riding season that results (and the Duc under a blanket of snow).

Haven't forgotten you guys. :x

Jeffrey Schnapp
former AFM #48

Formula Singles champ 2004
Formula Singles 3rd place 2003
250 Superbike 7th 2000-2001
2000 AFM Endurance champ in 450 class w. Team Toss (Youngie et al.) on a rickety TZ250 that we managed to get into 4th place overall even against the open class bikes

also raced some Formula III and 600 superbike (once upon a time)

Some of you may remember the red Tigcraft 700 (a real exotic beauty):

Never raced bikes before, but have raced cars in SCCA and NASA. New/Old School (44 year old) racing on an '85 Kawasaki GPz550/ZX550 (25 year old). Listed in AFM as #31A, but any day now it should click over to $943 NC. Looking forward to meeting a bunch of racers that use to have one of these.

Still have some safety wiring to do, and a belly pan to fabricate before March 22. That will be here very soon.

Stan??? Say what? New bike!! :laughing

AFM # 822 1985-1991

AFM # 642 2002- 2008

Always looked forward to the 4 hr endurance race. Raced it every year from 2002 -2008. Fortunately we did all those races with no crashes or DNFs.

Ex AFMer

Raced for about 15 years, Started on a FZ600 I built from a wreck, then on to a 87 CBR600,(great bike). Then I got a 1989 TZR250, put some TZ bodywork on it and I was hooked into the world of 250SS. a couple of seasons later I traveled to Japan where I bought a 91 TZR250 for $450.00 at auction. (No shit!) Raced it until 2008. Best was 3rd overall in 250SS in 2007. Great fun I just wish I could still afford to do it. BTW- I took the new racer school on an ex-AMA GPZ750 superbike and MAN was I SLOW!!! But they liked my lines so I passed the class.
Anyway, I highly recommend the track for all you frisky street riders!

Started racing 1973 on an RD350 AFM, CMC, WERA and others in SoCal
1974 AMA Novice 5th at Laguna my 1st AMA race (after stopping for 10 seconds)
1978 AMA Expert won my heat race at Laguna, DNF'ed in the Main
1979 AMA #37 - Retired at the end of the season.

Raced RD350, TZ250A, C and F models.
Won one of the first SuperStreet (predecessor to SuperBike) races overall on my RD350 with chambers and was almost protested by a rider who I beat that rode a 1100cc turbocharged Honda. He felt it was unfair because I had an AMA Novice license. What a squid.

AFM 6 HR Endurance race on an RD350 1st in Class 4th Overall, only 2 1000cc and one 500cc bike beat us. Mike Baeder was my co-rider. It was probably the 1st or 2nd time an endurance race was run, circa 1976 @ Ontario
