Rant: drove 1h to test Ducati with no rear brakes...

Rear brake is very useful in a bunch of situations. 2 up, in town, sketchy downhill on a loose surface, rear-wheel steering...

Known issue on 2nd gen RSVR's, as well. Both front AND rear brakes, in fact.

Italian products = crap quality control, IMO.

What?
Rear, yes. Sucky.
That's most likely the fault of the bike designers who took an off-the-shelf caliper and installed it upside down. Not so much to do with QC.

And the front brakes are fantastic.

Do I need to list all the Japanese bikes that use Brembo front brakes?

Check out the Aprilia forum and you will see a lot of threads about this. Many of the owners have Ducati's with the same problem.

If you bleed them correctly and say the right words when placing the spell, they stay really firm for over a year.

Now the clutch is another thing... Just be sure to get it into neutral before the stop light.

Beautiful Italian woman (and bikes) need the right touch.

Plus mounting the reservoir under the fairing right up against a hot engine

My bad, I was thinking of the clutch, which on my 04 needed bleeding every 2-3 weeks, due to a leaking slave cylinder, resulting in at least 3 different companies making aftermarket replacements for it.

The more I read about Italian bikes needing the right touch, the more I want to get a Kawasaki instead.

Well, seller should know better. Forks had no damping, same mode as others I tested valves were really loud, I wonder if the last adjustment was done by the same shop who didn't know how to bleed the brakes.

The buyer should know better. Leave your expectations at home.

Regardless of what the seller says about condition, it is all on you to determine the mechanical integrity of the potential purchase. If you test ride something or buy something without a thorough inspection first, you're really asking for trouble.

Absolutely positively...But...I fix anything that is a problem (course there are riders that can't do that)...
Anyway..since I can, It is no problem. (to me).

I clearly titled in the OP, "RANT", but I guess my English is better than most. Rant is more about passion than reason. I was frustrated because I wanted to like the bike, but it ended up being worse then the one's at dealers. That's all there is to it.

Again, for the 90% of street riders that never use their rear brakes, it's a non-issue.

If I ever wanted stats pulled out of your ass...I'm thinking you should try reading about it more, it's a start.

Exactly, as I pointed out before.

You are coming across as someone that is a beginner, just out testing peoples bikes. I mean, after all, you couldn't bump start a bike. And now, you are crying about a rear brake, and bitching about someone's valves

^^^ unbelievable funny name calling. Do you hire someone to post all this crap or you came up with it all by yourself? :laughing I hope you don't talk down real beginners like that though, they might believe you have something to say.

I got news to you, I'm a shameless pay rider, that means I pay for my own rides so that I don't have to look cool or be liked to get what I freaking want.

Go ahead and hate, if that rocks your boat. How many races have you won again? You should post that up front so you could leave sooner. :twofinger

Ya if you expect a modern motorcycle to be free of completely ridiculous problems you don't deserve to call yourself Ducatista...:rolleyes

What's a Ducatista? I actually prefer the Oakland A's over the Ducatistas, but no one ever cried when I told them that. :laughing

OP - quit your bitching... that's the nature of the game when buying used... especially with ducati. Who uses the rear for any serious braking anyways?

It was a "RANT", but I guess my English is better than yours. Don't post if you don't want to hear any of it.

That's all there's to it. Thanks for those with useful information, there were several.

Sorry, Sandy. I won't make fun of you any more. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

Plus mounting the reservoir under the fairing right up against a hot engine.

On the Multi, the reservoir actually sits in a relatively accessible area. It's the rear master cylinder placement that's questionable. Right beside the engine and the catalytic converter, and we all know how hot the latter can get. :devil There have been times when I park up after a ride and can't even hold my hand on the MC for more than a moment. :wtf

I loved my Ducati, wished I could have kept it. But sometime those EyeTalians really have they're head up their ass, design wise. :wtf

Gee, That little problem doesn't stop NASA from re-entry...:rofl

Insulation, it's here, get queer with it, get used to it.

If you re-read my statement elsewhere you would see that I mentioned my rear brake does indeed work. The heat really isn't an issue for me.

Reading comprehension, good sir. Learn it, love it, live it. :twofinger

I love this guy's threads.
Not serious, I assume.

How did this thing get soooooo big. All you I-tal-yan bike owners. :rant Well, you suck. I just spent a day on a '04 Jap thing with rash-ed everything. So, stop whining o.p. and buy the stupid bike or NOT.
