removing grease?

Be carful with Simple Green. It attacks aluminum. It's a no no on airplanes because they are mostly aluminum, and it causes corrision.

http://www.simplegreen.com/solutions_faqs.php?search_query=aluminum

The aqueous-base and alkalinity of Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner can accelerate the corrosion process.

The Army also issued an emergency Service Bulletin to stop using it. Cal Fire prohibits it's us, and won't even allow it in it's shops.

Anything that contains alkal-based cleaners stays away from my bike.

that's some good info! thanks msethhunter

Gas and a rag dude.:thumbup You know you have some gas laying around. Then, when done, use some soap and water to get off the remaining residue, as in douse it in soap and water( I use dollar store dish soap that says "Degreaser" on it) . And keep the rag out of your garage when you're done with it. Serious fire hazard.

If the bike is running/rideable, dry it off, take it for a quick 5 minute ride to get it hot and blow all the remaining water off, and wipe it down with a furniture polish.

Ohh, and some of this stuff helps out a ton too. You can order some online from here. It's only seven bucks.

Ok, you live in Tracy. Go to Motion Industries:

704 E HAZELTON STREET
STOCKTON, CA 95203
Phone: (209) 943-2801

and ask for "Loctite® Natural Blue® Biodegradable Cleaner & Degreaser"

You could also use ProOne Penetrating Lubricant. It's a marvelous degreaser.

These two are the best I've ever used

^^^I'll definitely give that a try if the other techniques don't get the job done...thanks for the tip on the location

msethhunter: dude that's the same place I buy my blinker fluid from! lol

honestly one of the cheapest and best solvents out there that will tear through grease is plain 100% Mineral Spirits. You can pick up jugs of it at any hardware store and it will dissolve grease almost instantly. I use it to wipe my swing-arm clean and clean my chain. Its safe to use on aluminum and doesn't seem to affect the powder coat on my frame. I tested in an inconspicuous part first, but have been using it for months now with no issues. Just put a little on a rag and wipe the area clean, you will be surprised how quickly the stuff just wipes right off.

None of the above.

OP.Trust me... Do you trust me..?

Finish Line EcoTech 2. It's soy based, biodegradable and won't harm rubber seals and O-rings..! Use it on the chain along with a Grunge Brush, rince with running water, dry it and apply Chain Wax lube..! Nuff said..! :eboy

PS. Do not use EcoTech directly over brake pads/calipers area. If it does get on the brakes just rince off with lots of water. It's kind of slippery (like soap), so make sure to get it off. Just use on wheels, swingarm, chain, sprockets, and engine block..!

Easy off. That stuff is pretty abrasive so put gloves on... and this doesn't require much rubbing/cleaning with a rag at all.

yup exactly......after years(20) its da bomb.

Biodiesel and a tooth brush works great, and it's non-toxic. Smells like vomit but it helps you retain a few brain cells.

Meh, they're over rated.

I'm kind of sitting here waiting for the last one to go 'pop'.

But really the stuff works great. I pulled the intake off a turbo diesel engine and it was almost completely clogged with soot build up. 2" intake and you couldn't even push a pencil through it. Carb cleaner, engine degreaser, simple green... didn't do shit. Soaked it in a tub of biodiesel for a week and the stuff just scooped right out. Not to mention that a can of carb spray is like $5 these days, you can get a gallon of BioD for that much and it will last a long time.

And to think, BioD is made from the stuff thats left over from the process of cooking stuf usually. Makes me knid of want to rethink my eating habbits.

There are way too many options better than oven cleaner.
Just my :2cents

^^^
yea that's my take too haha, but I got what I wanted: a few different alternatives to give a try

this is a common issue I always want to try and work better at...obviously what I was using wasn't getting the job done every time so I have a few new options to try next time :thumbup

Get some of the really cheap hand cleaner the white stuff smear it on there and it will lift the grease. it may take a couple applications but it works pretty well and its cheap and wont damage paint or aluminum.

I'm still waiting for someone to suggest letting a hobo pee on it. Hobo pee is not as acidic...or so I'm told.
